At Our Green Mosaic, we believe climate justice is about more than striving for net zero.

We are supported by a brilliant Board of Trustees: Andrew “Fitz” Fitzgibbon, Cheriesse Bema-Kwakye, Farah Ahmed, Francis X. Johnson and Marian Fletcher who each push for climate justice.

Every Trustee brings their valuable experiences, perspectives and areas of expertise to our work.

They were each asked: What does climate justice mean to you?

Swipe through to hear their answers.

What’s clear is that we don’t need a universal definition of climate justice to abide by its mission to realise a fair, inclusive and sustainable future.

Take a moment and imagine the world 20 years from now. Imagine that Jackdaw has been scrapped, renewable energy is neighbourhood-owned, public transport is accessible and affordable, the more than human world is flourishing and climate policies are built on equity, not corporate greed.

What if the biggest barrier to realising climate justice isn’t a lack of technology or resources, but a lack of imagination? This is part of the argument made by @amitav_ghosh1, who has described climate change as “a crisis of culture, and thus of imagination.”

In the latest episode of the Our Green Mosaic podcast, our host @hannahforclimate explores:
✨ Why imagination is a radical tool for positive climate action
🌿 The power of imagination in the climate space, as articulated in ‘From What is to What If’ by @robhopkins5085
⚖️ What intersectional climate justice looks like in practice, based on the framework formulated by @kimberlecrenshaw
🍩 How cities are using the @doughnuteconomics tool by @kate_raworth to advance climate justice

Can a fossil fuel emitter pay for the harm caused by climate disasters?

In this episode @hannahforclimate explores the science behind studies which prove some extreme weather events were made worse by climate change, the degree to which natural disasters can be traced to specific emitters and how all this can be used to finance loss and damage.

Take action by:
🤝 Supporting or joining local organisations dedicated to intersectional climate justice
🫂 Checking in on vulnerable community members, especially during extreme weather
💬Talking about emission cuts and loss and damage within your community and with local government representatives

Big Oil puts people and planet at risk, making dismantling it a climate justice issue.

In this episode @hannahforclimate explores the climate justice dimensions of the fossil fuel industry.

Listen in for answers to
🛢️ Who benefits from fossil fuels?
⚡ Why fossil fuels don’t provide energy security
✊🏿 Environmental racism and sacrifice zones
💷 Fossil fuel subsidies, fuel poverty and who benefits from the current system
🌱 What we can do to challenge Big Oil and build a fairer energy system

It also explores what changing that system could look like by discussing community energy, divestment, tackling greenwashing, supporting the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty and other actions.

We can’t fix the climate crisis without taking an honest look at net zero.

Climate justice demands we look beyond flashy net zero announcements and ask how these targets impact people and planet.

In this episode @hannahforclimate explores the blind spots of net zero targets and why they are both necessary and incomplete.

Let's dive into:
🌱 What net zero actually means
🔄 How carbon offsets typically work in practice
🌍 What offset projects can mean for communities around the world
⚖️ Why climate action needs an intersectional climate justice lens

If we focus only on balancing emissions we miss the deeper questions.

Who benefits from net zero projects? Who bears the risks? What does net zero mean for women, pastoralists and communities whose livelihoods depend on communal land? What about communities with histories of colonial land dispossession? And what happens when local communities have less political power than the companies purchasing carbon credits?

We can’t fix the climate crisis without tackling systemic oppression and inequality, because climate justice IS social justice ✨

In the second episode of the Our Green Mosaic podcast, our host @hannahforclimate explores the climate emergency through an intersectional climate justice lens. This episode looks at how the climate crisis worsens racism, classism, sexism, ableism and heteronormativity and how we can engage in meaningful climate action that dismantles these sinister forces.

This conversation matters because unless we interrogate the drivers of the climate crisis, we risk implementing ‘solutions’ that exacerbate systemic oppression and inequality.

War destroys the ecological foundations that human and animal life depends on.

When it comes to war, we rarely hear about forests being burnt to a crisp, rivers being poisoned, farmland being contaminated by landmines or ecosystems being destroyed.

In the first episode of the Our Green Mosaic podcast, our host @hannahforclimate explores the following five devastating impacts of war on people, planet and wildlife:

🌱 Toxic contamination of land
💧 The collapse of water and sanitation infrastructure
🐘 Ecosystem destruction and biodiversity loss
💥 Landmines and explosive remnants of war
🔥 The climate impact of fossil fuels and militarisation

This conversation matters because environmental destruction undermines health, livelihoods, food and water security, cultural identity and the rights of future generations to a healthy environment, even after peace has been reached.

The Earth belongs to all of us.

Yet the climate crisis ravaging our planet harms marginalised groups the most. Those who contributed least to the climate emergency are losing their lives and livelihoods. On Earth Day, we don’t just celebrate the planet: we fight for it to be protected so everyone can thrive.

At Our Green Mosaic, we believe climate justice must be intersectional, because no one should be left behind in the fight for a fair and sustainable future.

To us, climate justice means building a movement of climate solutions as diverse, resilient, and interconnected as the people and planet we strive to protect.

This episode covers the big question: what is intersectional climate justice, why does it matter, and what does it look like to communities on the frontlines?

Together we explore different systems of oppression, including sexism, racism, classism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia to better understand intersectionality.

This will expand your understanding of the climate crisis and arm you with the tools to engage in meaningful climate action.

We talk about how these intersecting forces of oppression shape the impacts of climate change, and the solutions needed for a sustainable future that is fair and inclusive.
