“The woods were my Ritalin,” author Louv writes of his childhood. “Nature calmed me, focused me, and yet excited my senses.” Steiner, who founded the first Waldorf school in 1919, held that a young child does not yet meet the world through thought or judgment, but takes it in directly, through the whole body, the way an eye simply receives light before the mind decides what to make of it. This is why, in Steiner’s framework, what a caregiver is, their tone, their pace, the mood they carry into a room, mattered more in early childhood than what they explicitly taught. Rhythm, repetition, handwork, and unhurried time outdoors were not extras layered onto the curriculum: They were the curriculum, on the understanding that a child absorbs the world through the body before they absorb it through language.Steiner extended the same conviction to land itself. In 1924, he laid out what became the biodynamic method: a way of farming that treats a farm not as a collection of inputs and outputs but as a single living organism, in which soil, season, and celestial rhythm are active participants rather than raw material to be managed. The underlying instinct here stands on its own: a living system responds to being related to, not merely extracted from. There is something worth noticing in what’s actually being prescribed here. A diagnosis usually comes with a bill attached: a specialist, a prescription, a program to enrol in. This one doesn’t. It asks for a walk already within reach, a season already turning outside a window, a few unhurried minutes of noticing what’s already there. The invitation has been written down. I want to call bullshit on the story that changing the world is an unfathomably challenging task.Not because the problems aren’t real, they are, but because we already proved it isn’t true. COVID happened, and whatever you believe about what it was, billions of people globally slowed down, stayed home, changed their behavior almost overnight. No one had done that before. No one thought it was possible until it was already happening. And in that window, the earth responded so fast it stunned everyone watching. David Attenborough documented it beautifully, if you haven’t seen his films, please do yourself that favor. Ecosystems that had been struggling for decades started blooming again in months.The Earth wasn’t waiting on a miracle. She was waiting on us to get out of the way long enough for her to do what she has always known how to do.That moment showed us something I don’t think we’ve fully reckoned with yet. The regenerative state isn’t a distant destination we’re slowly crawling toward. It’s what happens naturally when we stop doubling down on the systems that are blocking it. We are not starting from zero, and we are not too late. The capacity for rapid, almost incomprehensible change is something we have already demonstrated as a species, on a global scale, within our lifetimes.We now know that through mass cooperation and collaboration, we can adopt a new lifestyle and shift from our old systems to new ones very quickly.Origin exists to do something similar, not through fear or emergency, but through intentional collective choice. Having financial security is a privilege, a real one. The pressure of genuine material scarcity is its own kind of suffering I have not personally lived, and I hold that with the utmost presence and respect.AND - it is still true that money, even significant money, does not equal true wealth. I know this not as a theory but as a lived experience. I came into significant inheritance at 21, descended from one of the co-founders of Exxon, and I woke up every morning suffering greatly from how disconnected I felt from myself and the world.I did not know how to feel happy. According to the research on happiness, once our basic needs are met, the number of dollars in the bank account doesn’t matter in terms of impacting our level of happiness. ***We’re programmed to believe financial security = happiness.For me, that was not true at all. Financial security did not generate happiness.True wealth lives somewhere money can’t reach.The root of the word wealth is actually well-being. The depth of our well of being. And that well is replenished not by accumulating more, but by coming home.To the breath, to the body, to the earth that is… in every single moment, mirroring back our own wholeness.The regenerative system isn’t a new invention… it’s ancient. It’s what Mother Earth has been demonstrating forever, that everything is interconnected, that nothing is separate, that the soil and the stars and the water and the body are all one conversation happening at once.We just forgot how to listen.
