A remarkable achievement for Pinewood's Class of 2027!

42% of our graduating class has earned National Merit recognition! That's 10 National Merit Semifinalists and 12 Commended Students in a senior class of just 52.

"This exceptional achievement speaks to the intellectual curiosity, dedication, and love of learning our students bring to Pinewood every day. We celebrate each of these students and the teachers who have challenged, supported, and inspired them throughout their Pinewood journey." — Eve Kulbieda, Head of Upper Campus

How can we design or create a more inclusive world?

Seniors in Pinewood School’s Social-Entrepreneurship Program (PSP) visited the Magical Bridge Playground in Palo Alto to explore human-centered design. This is social entrepreneurship in action!

Guided by Kris Loew, students discovered how inclusive design removes barriers. They also watched Magical Bridge: Kind By Design, connecting founder Olenka Villarreal’s work to their studies of systems change.

Real-world learning that shows how thoughtful design can change systems.

Basketball + tennis—but make it physics!

Our students stacked a tennis ball on top of a basketball and dropped them together to explore energy transfer and momentum.

Here's the science: When the basketball rebounds off the ground and collides with the tennis ball, the collision demonstrates how momentum and energy transfer between two objects of significantly different masses. The tennis ball launches high into the air because much of the heavier basketball's energy and momentum is transferred to the lighter tennis ball.

Your turn: Can you think of another energy transfer in everyday life? Drop your ideas in the comments!

Our K–2 students are excitedly welcoming our newly hatched Pekin ducklings. The ducklings are settling into their new classroom home, where students and teachers are observing, caring for, and naming them—an opportunity to practice curiosity, responsibility, and imagination. What would you name the Pinewood ducklings? Comment to share your idea!

Magic abounds at our Lower Campus 🌱✨

Recess turned into science class when our kindergarteners discovered a praying mantis inside a slide.

What a beautiful reminder that learning and play go hand-in-hand!
