Technically this isn’t a toy, but I think you’ll be grateful for this one! 👌🏼

These are great for adding depth to your child’s small world scenes, or for adding small world into your garden that will last through the seasons (more on how to do this coming soon! 🌲)

Open-ended play doesn’t have to cost a fortune. I teach this every day in my guides and in the PlayFull Community.

Follow along for Part Four next week ✨

Comment ‘GARDEN’ for the link to my open-ended outdoor garden guide & my community with all guides (and future guides 🎉) included 🍂🌳

I don’t believe you need a big budget or a big garden for great outdoor play. I co-owned an outdoor nursery for 8 years, and the best play came from the most simple resources.

Hi, I’m Liv - and if you’d like simple, affordable, achievable ideas to support your child’s play; follow along for daily tips and guidance ✨❤️

I was so exhausted. Buying more, hoping the next toy would finally hold her attention. Then I realised, if I was overwhelmed, she was overwhelmed too.

So I stripped it right back. Got rid of most of it. Kept what was left somewhere she could actually see it, nothing buried in baskets, or out of sight. Nothing that lit up or made noise.

Then I found open ended toys through blogs, parent groups, corners of the internet all saying the same thing. Slowly, one at a time, I started replacing what she already had.

The difference was almost instant. Her imagination lit up. Her small world play changed completely. The toys stopped doing the talking for her, she started doing it herself - the less the toy did, the more she did.

So if you’re currently feeling the overwhelm in your home right now, I see you.
It doesn’t take much to change it. I promise! ❤️✨

You already own more open-ended toys than you think.

Duplo, boxes, Playmobil, figures, dolls …

Open-ended play doesn’t have to be wooden or come with a huge price tag.

We’ve just overcomplicated it.

If it’s ever felt confusing or out of reach, follow along. I share all of it, because I too felt completely overwhelmed by it ten years ago but now that I understand my children, their interests, and what open-ended play actually is - it feels easy ✨❤️

The part that is TERRIFYING me about this house move - and why I’m feeling the pressure!

3 days until the move, 2 days until we get the keys 🔑 🏡

Eeeeeek 🥹

It still blows my mind that this time last year I had no clue life would look like this. That I’d be able to financially support my 3 children, completely by myself.

But that’s thanks to you, for following this page, every like, share, comment, or maybe a purchase of a guide or community membership, or maybe you’ve purchased a toy I rave about on here!

My reality has literally changed in just 12 months.
And now we’re moving to a new home, a fresh start with a lot of emotions.

I can’t wait to share it with you, and document the journey. 🏡✨

Open-ended play taught me to trust my children…
And somewhere along the way, myself.

I realise I focus a lot on particular toys and storage but I want to share with you the other side to all of this, which I think is the most important part ❤️

Because toys are great, storage is key for independence, but trust - trust is when the magic happens.

These five block sets are used so well in our play space.
Whether you’re looking for a first block set, or wanting to deepen your older child’s play…
From giant blocks to tiny cubes - each set adds its own unique play value to my 10, 7 and 17 month olds play space ❤️

I’ll be sharing lots more of favourites on the run up to Christmas here, and in The PlayFull Community 🎄

Swipe to see two worlds being created. We have purposely left all the little details off of our scenes so that your children can be the ones to add them instead.

Throwback to when my 6 year old came out of school with a cardboard banana box as a bed for her newborn sister. 😆🥲

Nearly half of UK parents of young children spend less than an hour playing with them across the working week, and 83% say they wish they could do more.

That isn’t because parents don’t care. It’s work, tiredness, life.

I feel all of that too. But these little moments in my day remind me just how important it is to sit down on the floor with them. To connect with them, to really watch them and be present.

Play doesn’t have to be hours. This moment wasn’t long. I didn’t set anything up or show her what to do. I just sat nearby and noticed.

But in those few minutes, I saw the first glimpse of imagination, the same skill that will grow into language, storytelling and understanding other people.

So if you only have ten minutes today, that’s enough ❤️✨
