I’ve got a secret to share! 🪴 I love to garden, but not on my porches! Things don’t grow well there plus the mess. @nearlynaturalfloral #gifted me fabulous faux plants to decorate the front porch. Last year I did the same with the screened porch. See my previous reel.

They look so real and make life so much easier! My tip is to plant real before you get to the porch to fool the eye. The hanging macho ferns are real, but everything else is faux!

Happy Anniversary to our home! 🏡 20 years ago we moved our family into the home that we lovingly built. Our kids essentially grew up here. We have become empty nesters in the past year and a half. We sometimes ponder moving on to something smaller, but it’s home. Maybe one day…..

We tried to find an old home to remodel, but failed. So we built one with old, historic charm.

Today is the first day of fall!!! 🍁 My ❤️surprised me yesterday when a package arrived that he ordered me. It may be 94 degrees outside today, but I had to try on this fabulous @dudley_stephens fleece that I’ve been eyeing for a couple of years now. Thanks, hubby! We’re getting our first real taste of fall today, and I am here for it! 🍂

A crisp morning, a high of just 67°, and the prettiest breeze coming through the screen porch doors.

There’s something about that first cool day after a long Southern summer—the sound of the wind in the trees, the doors thrown open, and suddenly I’m ready to pull out the pumpkins and start adding a few cozy touches around the house.

I think today might officially be fall decorating day at Our Southern Home. 🤎

Sunday lunch at our house. 🤍

This one had a little French inspiration after our trip! 🇫🇷 We started with French 75s and a truffle appetizer made with truffles we brought home from France, followed by shrimp and scallops, rice pilaf, Caesar salad, warm French bread, French wine…and brownies for dessert.

And no, I didn’t get a photo of everything. The truffle appetizer disappeared before I ever thought about my camera! 😂

That’s the thing about these Sunday lunches. They aren’t styled photo shoots. This is our family actually coming over for lunch. I cook, we talk, the dogs make the rounds, everyone starts eating, and I grab photos and video when I can. I love sharing these Sundays with you, but I also want to live them while they’re happening.

And sometimes the table gets a little bigger at the last minute! Ashlyn and her husband had childhood friends from North Carolina visiting, so of course they joined us too. Everyone is welcome at Sunday lunch. ❤️

I did manage a quick photo of my church outfit before everyone arrived. This white linen vest, black pants and scarf combination has become such a classic for me—I even wore it twice on our cruise through France.

Today’s thrift store find is coming to you from somewhere between France and HOME! ✈️🏡

And when I say we are ready to walk through our front door…I mean it. 😂

Yesterday turned into quite the travel adventure. We spent 6 hours sitting on the tarmac at Heathrow when air traffic control went down, followed by a 7½-hour flight. We missed our connection, spent the night in a hotel, and are now making our way from Philly to Charlotte before the final 1½-hour drive home.

After being up for 26 hours yesterday, I have never been so excited about my own bed. 😂

But I couldn’t let today go by without sharing this month’s thrift store find!

Remember the blue and white ginger jar lamp from my shopping day with Ashlyn? I spotted it first, but she quickly announced, “Thanks for getting that down for me!” 😂 Since she’s just starting her own blue and white collection, I let her have it—but not before taking it home for a little refresh.

For $10, this one was too good to leave behind.

It was already in solid working condition, so I kept things simple: a good cleaning and polish, a touch of gold to freshen up the metal, a properly sized harp, and a classic pleated shade.

A little mother-daughter thrifting day! 💙

We started at her house and worked our way down Wade Hampton Blvd. toward Greer, stopping along the way for a little vintage and antique treasure hunting. It was a long, fun day! We didn’t even stop for lunch. Powered through with a protein bar.

A big shoutout to @plunderplacesc and @aged_attire in downtown Greer for being so welcoming! We had the BEST time browsing and hunting for pieces for both of our homes and vintage tees.

There might have been a brief tussle over a certain ginger jar lamp. 😂 Let’s just say one of us went home very happy. And that fabulous fur coat? It was fun for about 30 seconds before the South Carolina heat reminded me it was still August. 🥵

Our haul included vintage cocktail glasses, old blue books, a nightstand, shirts, Levi’s…and one very coveted lamp. 💙

Days like this with my girl are my favorite. Good finds, lots of laughs, and maybe just a little friendly competition.

Who gets first dibs when you’re thrifting with your daughter—the person who spots it or the person who wants it most? 😂

Casual Sunday lunch with smash burgers adapted from @halfbakedharvest with some easy sides! Everyone helps in some way. We’ve been doing corn a little easier by grilling then tossing in melted butter, garlic and fresh herbs from the garden. Cocktail was simple with some homemade peach simple syrup, rosé and sparkling limeade over ice. I cut the sweetness by topping it off with extra plain sparkling water. We are so blessed to have kids and grandkids from 10 - 30 minutes away. It’s so nice to see everyone weekly.

Sometimes it doesn’t take a full room makeover to completely change how a space feels.

These striped chairs and the marble-top side table from @birchlane instantly brightened this cozy room while keeping everything I love about it—the rich wood paneling, collected treasures, timeless rug, and classic character. (AD)

Sunday lunch yesterday was just 4 of us! It was a nice time to catch up with our daughter and son-in-law. It was a pretty easy meal! We started with a little bruschetta with crackers over a glass of rosé. Our meal was sautéed scallops with a few shrimp, grilled corn, purchased pasta salad, cantaloupe and garlic bread. Yummy!

Our @smitheyironware is hands-down the best cast iron. Yes, use it on the grill, stovetop and oven! We’ve been collecting it over a couple of years. Makes a great gift. 🎁 Comment COOK and I’ll send you a link to my exact pieces.
