They always say, “bloom where you’re planted”. But what if, you’ve dug roots in different places, been nurtured by different soils, and grown through multiple climates? As a multicultural immigrant and traveller who has span my life across and over the Pacific, allowing myself immerse into new cultures and emerge into new branches of identities - I’ve come to see that I will bloom like no body else nor will I belong like everybody else. Having to embody different cultural identities, definitions of home, and an ever morphing “family” - life shines like ever variating fireworks and simultaneously shuns with the shadows of loneliness. That I will only ever be partly known and partly loved on this finite earth. It’s a grief and wonder that not everyone know nor have the privilege to taste. It’s an ever lingering sweet bitterness of adventure, displacement, hospitality, loneliness, affection, and rejection. Though, growing with these sojourning humans in our respective fractured grounds have been a reminder of the worthy life we’ve chosen and been chosen to live. To leave all that we’ve known behind and brave new worlds. Again, and again, and again. We’ve been stretched and torn. Uprooted and replanted. Scars or tattoos of artwork on our bodies we don’t really know. But that breeds a resilience in us to bloom wherever we’re planted. And replanted. And replanted. After all, these are the most vibrant, resilient, curious, and creative people I know. 14 years ago I packed up my life and moved from 🇭🇰 to 🇨🇦. It’s been 14 years of longing for belonging. Of saudade. Of leaving home to find homes. Parting from family to find families. Feeling so present yet so displaced. And realizing that the wanderlust heart has found belonging all along. And all along, discovering that movements and settlements across geographic locations were never about the place, but the people. People who show me a different way. Who live with self-abandoned love. Who see into peoples hearts and spirits. Who’s natural response is extravagant hospitality. Who take every opportunity to bless and embody the love of Christ. Who bear their hearts in never ending testimonies of God’s goodness and power. Whose way of being is communal and sacrificial with seeming ease. Who love so deep, so hard, and so tangibly. Who show and teach me that different and better is possible. Things have gotten serious. 😜 2 weeks before our first hike. 4 trips. 22 beginner campers. And 2 big hearts 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️ feeling so full and grateful for our clients for trusting us and this learning process. Oh, and a whole business plan, 5 year financial projection, and presentation deck done for our grant pitching 💵🤑. We are still chicas, though. 👯‍♀️Just 2 whimsical girlies alchemizing our vision into reality. We’re holding onto our playfulness as things are also getting intense. And we’re behind on sleep as all founders are. 🙈 Trust us when we say we are just as excited as our clients to get back out in nature and reset our nervous systems on the hammock. 😌 Stay tuned for how that will go. 😱 taken in Toronto, Ontario by @outandaloud

It’s always beautiful to be in urban cities where “informal economies” - non-institutional spaces - thrive and fuel livelihoods and distinctive cultures. Mexico City is putting up a strong fight against inflation and displacement driven by “immigrants” from north of their borders. But in the pockets of informal locality, you will find resilience, survival, and a connected community that is salsa dancing through the hustle. It seems like people tend to go to Mexico to either escape or find themselves. Mexico in 2023 was both for me - escaping from “Canada”, COVID, and a deep sense of internal displacement. Mexico was a warm embrace. Sweet chirimoya reminiscent of Bolivia. Artesanal weaving that slows you down to appreciate detail craftsmanship. Street salsa that inspires everyday celebration. Chocolate atole that takes you back to ancient rituals. Adoraciones enamoradas that bring my spirit home. History that challenged and changed my faith. Art that reflects your emotions without saying a word. Or art that says a lot - protests and yearnings of a people and their plea for solidarity. And thriving street tropical plants - the same types that I contain at home that will never grow into its fullness in Canada’s climate, but blesses our homes with colours of this bigger world. We are all immigrants with lineage of geographic movement in one way or another. Belonging everywhere and no where and somewhere along finding belonging in brand new identities. Mexico is a living proof of that: Mēxihcah, Nueva España, Mexico. 🇲🇽 showed me that displacement and the mixing of cultures is not something to prevent, but to bravely accept and embrace. And the path forward is to actively participate in forging the new, daily. It was sweet to be back. 🫶🏼 taken in Mexico by @outandaloud

It’s been a few months since we started the bizventure and we are L-aunching and L-izarding away! 🦎 👀 Since our last post, we’ve been bizzy building the best onboarding process to take beginner backpackers into a sport that is oftentimes overwhelming, inaccessible to certain communities and $$$$! 🥲 And as of today, we’ve filled ALL our trip spots!! We even got accepted into a micro-grant entrepreneur program!!!!!! 🎉 🌿 Once we build our systems and refine the most important part of our offering, we are hoping to free up the capacity to dream into Day Hikes, Wilderness Survival training dates and connecting more folks to each other and the wild. Because, we’re here to take care of each other on this earth, right? And the wild gives us everything we need.
