I’ve long wanted to catch the view from High Cup Nick, it is such a perfectly textbook U shaped valley and I first remember it in a shot captured by the legendary Derry Brabbs. Having moved to the North Pennines, I’d planned this particular walk in my head in every detail, but nothing prepares you for that final view; one that isn’t surrendered to the walker until the last 50 yards, as you finally crest the lip of ‘Nick’. I sat here and ate my lunch, listening to the Lapwing and the occasional call of a raptor, unwilling to tear myself away from that fantastic vista.#pennineway #northpenninesaonb #highcupnick #walkinguk The view across Cow Green Reservoir to Little Dun Fell in the distance. The River Tees below Cow Green Dam.The first stretch of the walk is along gravel track..And borders the Warcop ranges..Crossing Rasp Hill. And descending to Maize Beck.Following the Beck to Dobson Mere Foot.Footbridge over Maize Beck - somewhat redundant in high summer. The final stretch across High Cup Plain: after 7 miles the view from High Cup Nick is withheld until the last 50 yards. by @outdooractive_uk

🥰 Wow! What an amazing day testing out the knee. We decided to climb up to Gragareth, our local Nuttall, which rises to 628 meters (2,060 feet) and is the highest point (county top) of Lancashire (debated as Green Hill is supposedly 1 meter higher). This was a test to see how well my knee has been healing and how strong it is. At the top, we decided to take the steepest way down back to Turbary Road. This was a bit of a recce as it was the first time we’ve descended that way. It’s steep and sketchy and, thanks to not having any rain for a few weeks, remarkably dry. Even the walk back to Turbary Road, which is notoriously boggy and wet, was dry and spongy. I would not recommend that descent in wet weather if slippery rocks and questionable foot platings are not your thing! It would make for a fun and challenging climb up to Gragareth, though! 🤷‍♀️ 🦿So far the knee feels great, as well as the soreness that I’ve had with my opposite Achilles compensating for the knee. Feeling really thankful, overall, as just a few weeks ago descending our stairs in our cottage was a painful challenge. 🪰 Although the actual numbers aren’t that impressive - 8.3 miles and 1,760 ascent - the heat of the day, lack of any breeze and those darn biting flies made it feel way more challenging. #YorkshireDales #Hike #Hiking #HikerLife #TheseAreTheGoodDays @womenwhohike @theyorkshiredales @outdooractive_uk @allyorkshire @yorkshiredales @lovenorthyorkshire @yourbritain @team_adventure_uk @everyoneshike @ordnancesurvey @hike_britain by @outdooractive_uk

☀️ A wonderful walk up to my local trig point means I am back on track with my regular schedule. I love travelling, of course, but ever since we moved to North Yorkshire, I almost prefer coming back home.
