Some places feel like they exist outside of time.

Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve is one of them. In Haida Gwaii, towering cedar and spruce forests meet a wild Pacific shoreline, humpback whales surface in sheltered channels, seabirds wheel overhead, and the stories of the Haida Nation remain woven into every island, inlet, and village site.

From July 5-13, 2027, join us aboard Ocean Wayfinder for an 8-night expedition through this remarkable archipelago.

Often called the “Galápagos of the North,” Gwaii Haanas is best experienced as it has been for thousands of years: from the water.

Travelling by small ship allows us to venture into quiet anchorages, explore remote shorelines, and visit ancient Haida village sites that simply cannot be reached any other way. With just ten guests aboard, there’s time to savour, to watch wildlife on its own terms, and to experience this extraordinary corner of Canada with respect and curiosity.

 - $9,450 CAD per person (double-occupancy)

	•	July 5-13, 2027 (8 nights)
	•	Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve
	•	Aboard s/v Ocean Wayfinder

Reserve your spot today.

Visiting SG̱ang Gwaay and Hlk’yah GawGa (Windy Bay).

One of the Gwaii Haanas Guiding Principles, part of the Haida Ways of Being, is ‘Laa guu ga kanhllns, which translates to Responsibility. The responsibility to manage and care for the land and sea together, to ensure that the natural and cultural heritage of Gwaii Haanas is passed on to future generations.

We were invited by the Haida Watchmen, who serve as the guardians of these ancestral sites, to visit and spend time ashore. We are so grateful to Ken Hans and Reg Wesley for sharing their knowledge, stories, and art with us… to deepen our understanding of the culture and history of this remarkable place.

One of the (many) beautiful observations we’ve had of this region so far is how quickly the light and weather conditions change. We boarded the skiff on a moody, drizzly morning to photograph Ocean Wayfinder from the water, and within moments were gifted a vibrant rainbow followed by bright blue skies.

Moments you couldn’t possibly script, but in this magical place it seems they’re around every corner.

Experiencing our first 24 hours aboard Ocean Wayfinder, Outer Shores Expeditions newest addition.

The beauty of this type of travel is that we have time. To listen and to connect. To learn and to settle in. Haida Gwaii is rich with history, ecology, and beauty... Gwaii Haanas translates to Islands of Beauty, and we’re feeling honoured and grateful to have this time to experience such an incredible place.

An incredible few weeks exploring the magic of Gwaii Haanas with the @outershores.expeditions team!

As a killer whale guy, I was excited to get out to areas that are far less surveyed, and I wasn’t disappointed. The T028s, T146Cs, T028Cs, T151s, T250s, T248s, T127, T041s and T146D were just some of the Biggs killer whales we were able to document.

But it was all the other wildlife, the rich cultural history, the wonderful passengers, and the amazing crew that made the trip truly special.

Already looking forward to the next one. Haawa. by @outershores.expeditions

On Canada Day, our thoughts can’t help but turn to those days long before there even was a Canada. A time when these shores were being carved by wind, tides, and rain. Salmon returned to their rivers. Humpback whales traced ancient migration routes. Old-growth forests took root. The rhythm of the tides continued, season after season, century after century.

The BC Coast has been alive with stories for thousands of years. Every expedition we make is just a brief moment within a much larger story, one that began long before us and will continue long after we are gone. We are fortunate to witness even a small part of it.

It is a privilege to share this extraordinary corner of Canada with guests from across the country and around the world, and to spend time in a place that continues to inspire wonder, humility, and respect.
Happy Canada Day from all of us at Outer Shores Expeditions.
