Where vulnerability becomes art and weird becomes genius.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This past Wednesday was my birthday. I kept it low because I still had a lot of work to do for this moment 🖤 My brother and I started recording ourselves in an apartment building on Barron using the left headphone on the mic input jack of a stereo. 5 minutes way, I’M NOW OPENING MY FIRST EVER COMMERCIAL RECORDING STUDIO. This is fruits of a multi-decade grind. I been doing this since elementary fam. We used other people’s computers for years because we didn’t have one. Then we put up mattresses to make vocal booths. When I was 16 I bought a Shure SM57 at a pawn shop on Park Ave and felt like I was ready to take on the world. I’m tearing up typing this... it’s been such a long journey, but it truly feels like I’m just getting started. Welcome to an idea of mine. We call it OUTERSPACE. I’ll tell y’all all about it another time. For now, just watch the short film we created to set it off. Love y’all.

Nah wait. Let me talk my shit. This is black business. This is homegrown. This is brick by brick homey. If y’all knew all the shit I had to go through to get here... I’m proud of myself my g. There’s so much to this story I ain’t told yet, but I will. I promise. I swear, all you gotta do is keep getting back up homey. One Way Or Another.

Finally. @outerspacemane is now open. It features two recording/mixing rooms, one visual media room, and more. To book, visit OUTERSPACEMANE.com.

We call this isolation booth “The Garden.” It’s primarily used for vocals, and designed by @imakemadbeats with assistance from @lj1sproductions and @scottromosa. The design is based on the idea of discovering a new planet’s vegetation. #OUTERSPACE book now at OUTERSPACEMANE.com.

In the 90s I discovered that I could plug in Northwest Airlines headphones into a microphone input on a radio and it’d actually work as a mic. Decades later, OUTERSPACE was created. We use headphones as just headphones now, and use industry standard Neumann microphones. Book now.

Most studios are designed for engineers, not artists. Ours is designed for both. Book now.

Sunday, @weareunapologetic will be represented at the @overtonparkshell 90th Anniversary Weekend in a celebration of Memphis studios alongside @staxmemphis , @thelegendarysunstudio , @royalstudiosmemphis , @americanrecordingstudio , and @samphillipsrecording .

Just look at those names for a second.

These are institutions that helped define what Memphis sounds like to the world. So to see UNAPOLOGETIC. sitting in that company on this flyer is kinda crazy to me.

We’ve spent years building our own thing. Our own sound. Our own culture. Our own rooms. Creating a place for the weird ones, the fearless ones, the people making the next version of Memphis music.

That means a lot to me.

You know one thing client after client tells us... that I never thought would be a selling point? They tell us that @outerspacemane is a safe place. I've heard countless stories of the dangers seen and felt in recording studios. I don't even wanna get into the details... but it means a lot to me that people attribute safety to this place... physical safety as well as emotional safety. Free to be creative... free to explore vulnerabilities.

This premiered on @pbs days ago. Memphis | COFFEE The Universal Language, a mini doc on coffee in Memphis. Created by @weare.nd 🔥.
No 1: I was standing outside of the @weirdisnormalstore when they told me "yeah, you in your studio is like the first shot of the doc..." I'm like word?!?
No 2: Any time I get to show the world the brotherhood that I have with @abartjones... the partnership that @weareunapologetic has with @cxffeeblack ... I feel blessed. Truly.
No 3: This is an amazing capture of how coffee happens in this city... definitely including the great @cxffeeblack but involving other special contributors to the coffee world and movement here. Follow @weare.nd and check the links for this doc, it's on YouTube now. Shouts to Nes and Darla 🙏🏾. Shouts to @cxffeeblack for having me in this world of thought. by @outerspacemane
