Pixel Armchair. Wood joinery, Jaisalmer stone, and an indigo vat. The armchair adapts the studio’s marquetry principles into soft upholstery: small square pillows of indigo-dyed khadi stitched together to build a tactile pixel grid. The wooden frame references to building scaffolding, paired with warm Jaisalmer sandstone insets. Both the wood and the fabric share the exact same dye - yielding a shifting range of indigo tones achieved purely through the count of dips and the density of the grain. Commissioned for the Legacy Room of a diamond factory. by @outoftheshed_
Looking back at UNDERCURRENTS at India Design ID, where we presented work born out of questions, studio experiments, and discoveries on the floor. Heenchko. The quintessential Gujarati swing, reimagined through perspective and craft. While prototyping a traditional swing, the studio set out to explore a simple question: could a completely flush marquetry plane produce genuine spatial depth? The resulting seat pairs Indian courtyard architecture with optical perspective. Contrasting wood species and natural stones interlock into a kaleidoscopic pattern of doorways and seasonal trees. The ground is never rendered - it exists only as the negative space left behind. Shown at India Design Mumbai 2026 | Undercurrents by @outoftheshed_
Mahjong. Taking an object rich with centuries of tradition and reinterpreting it through local stone, wood and pigment. The tiles are built from layers of yellow sandstone and Makrana marble. When stacked during play, their two-tone edges reveal the stepped geometry of a baoli. The suit illustrations were iteratively refined with our lapidary and inlay artisans to achieve legibility across hand-cut stone. Encased in a teak and rosewood marquetry box with precision-fitted velvet slots for all tiles, dice, and markers. by @outoftheshed_
Block Marquetry Chair. A simple yet precise checkerboard pattern built from contrasting blocks of teak and yellow teak. Designed around the weight and texture of solid wood, leaving the natural grain to do the work. by @outoftheshed_
Capiche Carrom. Some kitchens run like an orchestra enjoying itself. At @pizza.capiche , the cooks move in unison - each dish choreographed, finding order inside apparent chaos. Carrom shares that exact nature: pieces scattering, rebounding, and settling under controlled intention. The playing surface is an illustrated portrait of pizza-making mid-action. Hands mid-gesture, dough stretched, ingredients landing. Drawn from hours spent observing the restaurant floors across Surat and Ahmedabad, the illustration was translated into black Kadapa stone, inlaid with semi-precious stones, brass, and a stained timber frame. First presented at India Design ID, Mumbai 2026 as part of the Undercurrents special project. by @outoftheshed_
For designer Priyanka Shah, founder of SHED, making is as much about curiosity as it is about craftsmanship. From reimagining familiar objects to working closely with artisans, her practice explores the relationship between materials, people and the spaces we inhabit. In conversation with Blur The Border, Priyanka reflects on the place of Indian craftsmanship in global design, the importance of dialogue in her studio, and why creative instinct and entrepreneurship need not be at odds. by @outoftheshed_
