Most importantly, I’m having fun with the process. Trying not to spend too much time in my head. Writing it down, saying it out loud, making mistakes and learning from them. What I’m good at, I’m mastering. What I’m curious about, I’m leaning into. by @outonlunch

Q1 - A reminder to surrender what I couldn’t control and pour everything into what I could. ❤️‍🔥 by @outonlunch

Yesterday was day one of a five-week series with Dr. Kash, a Black Jamaican scholar and Hip Hop Theorist from Brooklyn. I found the class randomly on the NYPL website while searching for free programs that caught my eye.

Her teaching style mixes lecture with interactive work, which I love as a hands-on learner. We dove into the five elements of hip hop and how each of them has been criminalized.

The class is a mix of genders, ethnicities, and races, so we explored the material through Ken Wilber’s AQAL quadrants. My friends and I were the only people predominantly from the hood and Black, so we were engaging with it through an intersubjective lens while watching everyone else view it objectively. Veryyyy interesting to see it unfold firsthand.

Just a reminder your local library system offers classes like this for free. I’m taking this one specifically because I’m interested in race and culture, but other people are taking the class because they want to go into academia or learn more about the Black spiritual connection to Hip Hop. So yeah! by @outonlunch
