Tomorrow, Yohani headlines the main Moon Stage at Ziro Festival of Music and closes the night.

She will do it with her own catalogue, in her own language, largely in Sinhala.

That fact matters.

For years, the assumption has been that an artist from a small country must somehow dilute the thing that makes them specific in order to travel. Change the language. Change the sound. Become more familiar. Become less local.

Yohani’s career keeps testing that assumption.

A Sri Lankan artist has not done this at this level before. Not as a supporting act. Not as a novelty appearance. As the headliner, closing the main stage of a major international festival.

And she is doing it with music made from home.

That is the interesting part.

I’ve been with her from day one, so I know this moment did not emerge from luck alone. Behind one visible night are years of records, rights, negotiations, rehearsals, infrastructure, failures, decisions and a team willing to keep building before there was any guarantee the world would care.

Five years ago, this might have looked improbable.

Tomorrow, it is simply on the schedule.

That change is worth paying attention to.

Not just for Yohani.

well, wasn’t that a wild ride❤️‍🔥

there’s something quite surreal about watching a team build stage after stage & realising, somewhere along the way, that the things that once felt too big for us have simply become the next thing we do!! from outright stage to aadarei, @outrightplay has just kept building

from an A&R perspective, this one was extra special. we know @yohanimusic in the pop space. we know these songs. we’ve lived with some of them for years. but taking 32 of them apart, reimagining them, and hearing them come back to life with an orchestra was something i genuinely don’t know how to put into words

@shenal_funkydirt & @yohanimusic; what you two created with this music was ridiculously amazing! from the moment we heard it for the first time at the office and just looked at each other like, “yeah, this is going to be special” (lengathukam specially)

@dilanjan.s; thank you for continuously throwing us into the deep end, trusting that we’ll figure it out (& somehow being right every time)🤪

@thisal.mo; thank you for putting up with the tantrums, being the unfortunate recipient of every panic spiral, and somehow still calming me down. this one was extra special with you by my side (& yes, i apologise for yelling at you for several things that were absolutely not your fault, heh)🤍

Yohani Releases “Punchi Ruchiranani,” the First Single from Her Third Studio Album “Sadde”

Outright Play proudly presents “Punchi Ruchiranani” (පුංචි රැචිරාණනී), the first single from South Asian pop sensation Yohani’s highly anticipated third studio album, “Sadde” (සද්දේ).

Following her global breakthrough with “Manike Mage Hithe,” Yohani has continued to take Sri Lankan music to audiences around the world. With “Sadde,” she enters a bold new chapter, and “Punchi Ruchiranani” offers the first glimpse into the album’s evolving sound and creative direction.

The track features music production, composition and mixing by Shenal Maddumage, with lyrics and production by Dilanjan Seneviratne.

I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the feeling of seeing something we’ve spent months working on finally come to life.

AADAREI was one of those productions where there were a hundred things happening at once, and somehow every single one of them mattered. From the first conversations to rehearsals, stage setup, technical planning, and finally show day — there was a lot that had to come together to make those two nights happen.

This was my third big event production of the year, which is still a little crazy to think about. Each one has taught me something different, but AADAREI was a different kind of challenge. Producing a show with a full orchestra, 32 songs, and so many moving parts meant constantly thinking ahead, solving things as they came, and making sure the bigger picture never got lost in the details.

And then the lights came on, the music started, and all of it became real.

A special thank you to @mealizaa, through every headache and through every “how do I do this” moment, you were always there to say “you’ve got this”. Having you there through all of it, and being able to share this one with you, meant a lot to me🤍

To @dilanjan.s, thank you for the trust and for giving me the space to take on something like this. To @yohanimusic and @shenal_funkydirt, and every musician, technician, crew member, partner, and person who worked behind the scenes — thank you for making this happen.

And to everyone who came to AADAREI, thank you for being part of those two nights.

Still learning. Still figuring things out. But very grateful to be doing this.
