Geez, what an immense honor to be featured in this @nytimes piece! Thank you @ericasimov for not only including us amongst some extremely talented California producers making authentic, delicious, and intentional wines but also for shining some positivity on the current state of the wine industry.

This path as a startup winery and grape grower often feels like an endless puzzle with the odds stacked against us, but we are constantly learning, adapting, and genuinely having so much fun amidst the chaos and challenges of it all. There’s nothing else we’d rather be doing!!

A short but sweet summer break in the High Sierra 🏔️🌞! Getting it in while we can!

First stop was revisiting the Tuolumne Triple after 10 years (!), a classic linkup of Tenaya Peak, Matthes Crest, and Cathedral Peak. Hard to ask for a better day of climbing amazing granite and romping through the high country. Just the best!

After a rest day, we hiked out to Merriam Peak to climb the North Buttress, a remote route we’ve had on our list for many years. We were delighted to arrive with the entire mountain and 3 alpine lakes all to ourselves! The adventure felt pretty full value with a lengthy/steep approach, memorable climbing at 13k ft, a tricky ridge descent, and a fortunately soft snowfield to make our way back down to our camp. We even had plenty of daylight for a frosty dip in the lake before dinner. Hard to beat!

We packed in a lot in a few days and are definitely tired but also rejuvenated and psyched for the quickly approaching 2026 harvest ✨ taken in High Sierra by @outwardwines

We think about these wines every day.

We got the current release from @OutwardWines a few weeks ago and each time we open one it’s more exciting. Maybe it’s because they’re serious rock climbers or maybe it’s something in their vision of what these wines should be…. Either way there’s a structure that runs through each one that separates them from the pack. The wines are also remarkably fresh, for wine from anywhere. And they have stories to tell about places around the SLO Coast, Santa Ynez Valley and other places along the Central Coast. These are some of our very favorite wines from California. by @outwardwines

After two years of dreaming, this spring we planted a little vineyard in the hills of Arroyo Grande on the SLO Coast. It sits on a tucked-away ridge top about 5 miles from the ocean and 650 feet above it, with a southern exposure and views that sweep out toward the Point Sal dunes.

The first time we came here, we were immediately drawn to the land itself. As we started exploring the soils, we found ancient marine fossils scattered throughout the hillside—a pretty incredible reminder that this ridge was once part of the ocean floor. We of course couldn’t help but wonder what growing grapes here someday might look like …

We have since become everyday observers of this place and its rhythms. So close to the coast you can taste the salty air, yet somehow always basking in the sunshine. A landscape teeming with so much life that was here long before us: ancient oaks, native shrubs, nasturtiums spilling through the grass, and the constant movement of hawks, bees, hummingbirds, owls, deer, coyotes, bobcats, foxes, skunks, and all the other quiet life bustling behind the scenes.

Spending time here has shaped the way we think about introducing vines to a place that is already so full of life. Our goal is to work with the natural environment, learn from it, and let the vineyard become part of what’s already thriving here. This year we planted rootstock with the plan to eventually graft over to Savagnin (and a few rows of some other fun varieties). Plenty to do until then!

We can’t wait to share wines with you someday from this special little corner of the SLO Coast ✨

About 5 years ago, our friend @liljabee introduced us to @farmtocrag —a climber-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit that inspires action on climate change by connecting the outdoor community with local, sustainable, and regenerative food systems.

After every gathering we’ve participated in @rawrootsfarm or elsewhere we leave incredibly inspired, informed, motivated, and grateful for the enduring friendships we’ve kept to this day. This organization truly brings together everything we love!

Many members of the Farm To Crag community have joined us in the vineyard and cellar over the years, so it was a full circle moment and true honor to create a collaboration wine together this year.

We are very excited to share that we are now offering this special Farm To Crag bottling through our website, and that 100% of net proceeds will go to Farm To Crag in support of its mission.

This wine is made entirely from grapes we farm in Santa Ynez Valley and the SLO Coast. We blended select Syrah, Pinot, and rosé barrels into a vibrant and juicy, chillable red wine we coined the ‘Field Blend Red.’ Big thanks to renowned artist and climber @jer.collins for the beautiful label art!

My friends at @farmtocrag partnered with @outwardwines and we put art on bottles and infused it with awareness of how climbers could be more conscientious of their travel spending habits and how they move through the planet, and eat and consume and climb and enjoy life sustainably?

SLO COAST & FRIENDS 2026 is in full effect!

We created this wine fair to highlight the vignerons of the SLO Coast AVA alongside like-minded producers who farm organically and regeneratively, with deep reverence for the land. For our 2nd year in a row, our core SLO Coast group is joined by farmer friends from around the West Coast.

Year five of making Pét-Nat and still doing it the hard way! Spent the last two days hand disgorging and hand corking/caging each bottle, which in itself was a great improvement to our very stubborn and maybe a little psycho method of doing it all in a single day as we did for the four years prior … 😅

Disgorging is the second-to-last step before we hand label each bottle and release this joyful, bright, and bubbly wine into the world. Our Pét-Nat is by far the most labor intensive, high touch wine we produce, and despite questioning why we make it every year, the final result is a reminder that it’s well worth the effort.

Pruning season! By far our favorite vineyard activity of the year, made even better by the lush surroundings of “winter” on the coast 🌞🌱🌳🌊.

We were lucky to receive substantial rainfall at the end of 2025 followed by a sun-drenched start to 2026, setting the stage for very happy cover crop and fluorescent green hills that make you feel like you’re in the Shire.

It’s been unseasonably warm the past few weeks, which has led to some of our vines waking up a little ahead of schedule. Thankfully we are mostly caught up with just one more site left to prune, and are thrilled to see a bit more rain and cool weather in the forecast to help extend this magical green season ✨🍀. taken in Central Coast, California by @outwardwines
