Strongman! Back at it again at the @pit_trials @strongman_corp_saskatchewan competition. Thanks as always to the volunteers and judges for putting the best show together that ran smoothly!

Training was interesting given my travel schedule, coming back from NZ then fighting jet lag into the comp was tough but doable. Had an event win on overhead and had a good back and forth with the guys on every event.

Event 1: Deadlift - 3rd - rookie mistake having my belt blow apart but now coach knows I can deadlift 300kg without a belt…thanks @willprevost
Event 2: Keg Press: - 1st - for whatever reason I thought the weight was 275 😅 so I was prepping heavy for this show but it paid off!
Event 3: Arm over Arm: - 3rd - hands need work on this but I was happy with my last tug.
Event 4: Sandbag over bar - 3rd - this one was a rep fest.
Event 5: Farmers - 3rd - grip didn’t fail me but I really made myself hold on longer than I should have.

Josh Cloherty — aka the Cheeseburger Walrus, aka Blakely’s dad, aka Bailey’s baby daddy, aka @prokayest_strongman — is facing the toughest battle of his life.

Cancer.

It’s an ugly word and an even tougher fight, but we have a hopeful update: Josh’s appointment went well the other day. The surgeon was able to remove the mass, and the next step is radiation treatment starting in roughly the next 2 weeks.

They’ve already completed a CT scan with contrast to ensure the radiation team can accurately target the areas that need it. At this point, radiation is being used as preventative maintenance — to kill anything that may have spread and dramatically reduce the chances of recurrence. Without radiation the chance of it coming back is around 30%, but with radiation it drops to under 5%.

Right now, Josh is unable to work while undergoing treatment, and the Cloherty family needs support. The strongman community is built different — when one of our own is down, we show up.

Josh is a devoted family man, a supporter of everything strength-related, a current Circuit Pro, Strongman Corp Canada Provincial Rep, the original bag bitch, and the type of guy who helps everyone along the way. Now it’s our turn to rally behind him.

We’re working to raise $20,000 to help support the Cloherty family while Josh focuses on treatment and recovery. Anything helps — truly. If you can donate, share, or support in any way, it all makes a difference.
