Oct 1: It’s with great excitement that we welcome Australian composer and musician Anthony Pateras to La Bleue for a solo piano set. Building upon years of research, the performance will draw on the methodologies of 20th and 21st century composers and improvisers, combined with the acoustic embodiment of radical electro-acoustic music.

Active since 1999, Pateras's practice spans contemporary music, electroacoustics, piano improvisation, experimental rock and film soundtrack.

He has composed over 90 works and released more than 50 records, performing solo, with his groups Pateras/Baxter/Brown, PIVIXKI, Thymolphthalein, North of North, tētēma and Sulla Lingua, and in long-term duos with Jérôme Noetinger, Stephen O'Malley, Erkki Veltheim, Rohan Drape and Anthony Burr.

He lives and works in Djaara/Castlemaine, and serves on the jury at La Becque, La Tour-de-Peilz. taken in Paris 19ème by @owendodd

Sep 22: Rogiński returns!

We’re very excited to welcome back guitarist, composer, and ethnomusicologist Raphael Rogiński to present Qırım, a meditative journey into sound, memory, and spirituality, inspired by the culture of the Crimean Tatars and the lost world of Crimea.

This project is a result of his frequent travels to Ukraine and years of research into Eastern music. In his interpretation, the music of Crimea is not a reconstruction of folklore, but a living organism. The mysticism of Crimean Tatar tradition, the echoes of ancient Sufism, the sound of mourning songs, and the meditative pulse of the steppe are intertwined with improvisation to create a spiritual and emotional landscape.

Trained in jazz and classical traditions, Rogiński's work draws on deep research into musical folklore and wide-ranging histories. He performed his project of John Coltrane reinterpretations at La Bleue this January.

Sep 17: La Bleue returns with an evening of music for strings with Richard Sears and Mariel Roberts.

Composer-pianist Richard Sears presents String Quartet no. 1, a new work built around alternate tunings and sustained drones, reshaping our sense of time through repetition and slow transformation.

Plus a solo cello set from Mariel Roberts, a leading figure in contemporary and experimental music, known for her virtuosic performances and restless approach to the instrument.

Jun 29 (sold out): We’re very happy to welcome Italian soprano saxophonist, improviser and composer Cosimo Fiaschi for an intimate solo set in Paris.

Fiaschi’s work is dedicated to a deep exploration of the saxophones’s timbral spectrum, with particular attention to multiphonics, treated not as effect but as material, embracing unstable harmonics, beating patterns, fragile overtones on the edge of sound and silence.

The concert will celebrate his recent release unveil / unfold (INSUB records), his first full length solo release which presents two durational pieces that explore space dimensions and perception of sound.

Jun 17 (Sold out): Please join us in welcoming back @anenonmusic (Brian Allen Simon) to La Bleue for an intimate evening of wind synth and pedals. Brian played the first ever concert at the apartment over 2 years ago, inspiring this series, so it is a great pleasure to have him back to perform again and to celebrate the release of his new album, Dream Temperature( @tonalunion ). He will play a close-up set of breathy melodies, processed harmonies, and expansive improvisations.

Anenon is the long-running solo project of Los Angeles–based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Brian Allen Simon. Moving fluidly between saxophone-led improvisation, electro-acoustic composition, and patient, songlike structures, Simon’s music lands in a singular space where jazz phrasing, ambient atmospheres, and studio craft converge.

Since emerging in the early 2010s, Anenon has built a quietly influential catalog that charts a steady evolution: from the beat-scene-adjacent electronics of the early releases toward richly detailed, acoustic and experimental works. Albums like Petrol (2016) and the celebrated Tongue (2018) established Simon’s unmistakable language while Moons Melt Milk Light(2023) pushed further into expressive, spacious compositions that feel both deeply personal and formally precise.

As the sociologist Richard Sennett writes, “making is thinking.” And intelligence, the kind that isn’t artificial, proves itself in the act of creation. This newsletter has always been less about a place and more about a certain way of moving through the world. People who do rather than comment, who expose themselves through what they make, and who push back against the world’s growing sameness in the process. Music, and live music in particular, might be one of the purest form of that resistance. An irreducibly human act, impossible to outsource, impossible to scale, impossible to reproduce without losing the thing that made it matter in the first place. Which is why, when I heard about this new festival, Les Ondes, I wanted to know more.

Cerbère is the last village in France before the Spanish border, a rocky coastal cape town where the Pyrenees drop straight into the sea. The town grew around the railway after France and Spain connected their rail lines here in the 1870s. Passengers and cargo were required to change at the station due to the different track gauges between countries, making Cerbère a fortuitous point of transit. It is here, at the Hôtel Belvédère du Rayon Vert, an art deco landmark perched between sea and mountains, that Ashley Helvey and Owen Dodd have chosen to stage Les Ondes, an intimate three-day gathering built around experimental music, deep listening, and a shared sensitivity to material and craft. Concerts unfold one at a time, throughout the day and into the evening, in various spaces within the hotel and the surrounding area, a pace that feels less like a festival than a long, attentive weekend at the edge of the world.
