Egypt exited the World Cup after a last-minute loss to Argentina in what was arguably the most dramatic match of this tournament.

As an Egyptian, I experienced that brief glimpse of hope after we took a 2–0 lead. For a moment, it felt like we were about to witness the biggest upset in the history of the sport.

Then everything collapsed in 15 minutes.

Yes, there were some controversial refereeing decisions, but we also played very poorly in the final 10 minutes. Our head coach, Hossam Hassan, made the most bizarre decision by continuing to attack instead of defending our lead in hopes of scoring more goals.

Still, we leave this World Cup with our heads held high and our hearts full of hope that our time to achieve excellence in football and in all aspects of life is coming soon. 🇪🇬✨❤️ taken in Stienway Astoria New York by @owiseabuzaid
