Opening the #SoulfulSunday file.

A week that ended in 30 outside and started in brass. Jazz in Duketown last night. Heat on the windowsill this morning. Neither in this photograph.

But the water is doing what Sundays are supposed to do. Keeping its own version of everything that sits still long enough.

Same wall again.

They found the best lunch spot in town. I can confirm.

This group of kids were (illegally) jumping off the edge, when the police came by to speak with the kids and warn them. They decided it was time for one last jump.

Opening the #SoulfulSunday file.

Scooters all morning. A room full of expensive cars after that.

The rest of the day I remember as movement.
The bits in between were parks, and this was the one with a roof on it.

Found in the film archive. Shot during the parade, which was somewhere behind me, doing its best.
The flowers were planted for the occasion. He was not.
The parade got its frames. So did he.

Writing this while my feet are touching the Atlantic Ocean.

Kodak Ultramax 400 is in the camera again. Nobody writes love letters to this film. It is the cheap box at the counter, the one you grab without thinking, the stock people apologise for shooting.

It made this. Roses on a wall in Bargemon, a table nobody was sitting at, all that warmth without being asked for it.

Now it gets nine days of salt and sun. I know roughly what it will do and I am excited anyway.

Most of what I shoot, I don’t see for weeks. Honestly, that’s the whole point.

I really thought this one was ruined. Too much night, entirely the wrong camera, and a gut feeling to hit the shutter anyway.

Film doesn’t give you the comfort of a screen. you just wait it out, until the negative finally shows you what you managed to capture.

Pixels disappear and files get lost. But the actual, physical moment is safe, tucked away into a negative sleeve in the archive.

Opening the #SoulfulSunday file.

Same camera as the one that started all this. Two years ago, twenty minutes up the same coast.

It is a tourist trap and it has every right to be. The alley was full.
I waited a good fifteen minutes.
