The last time I stood here in Farellones, two years ago, I was in the best shape of my life and felt pretty fucking invincible.

Since then I crashed my mountain bike and broke my hand, wrist, and foot. Then I blew out my shoulder swimming and spent an entire ski season trying to make an unstable arm cooperate.

Then came the surprise colorectal surgery.

After that, I finally had my shoulder reconstructed. I lost almost a year to recovery. No mountain biking. No swimming. No lifting. Months of trying to put myself back together in physical therapy.

I finally got back on snow in early January.

Then, in early February, I broke my leg in Aspen.

The last two years have kicked the absolute shit out of me.

My shoulder still isn’t right. I still can’t swim. I still can’t mountain bike. There are a lot of things my body used to do without a second thought that I’m still trying to get back.

But I’m back in Chile. I’m skiing.

No matter what happens, how much it hurts, or what it costs me mentally and physically, I’ll come back. I’m not giving up the things I love.

It was a crazy end to a dry winter at @altaskiarea. We had over a foot of snow on Closing Day and the next day, Employee Appreciation Day, was a powder day, too. @jennibeerbelly finally got a good powder photo on Closing Day and @ozskier made his post-injury comeback by getting all up in the Taint and blowing it up for the camera. That wraps up 11 years of Alta Marketing ski photos for me. See you next year (ski-wise, anyway).

Bluebird skies set the tone for another incredible day at Telluride Gay Ski Week. The mountain delivered great turns all day, and the après scene absolutely popped off as everyone rolled into town and the energy kept building. We capped it all with a comedy show that was completely off the hook.

Welp, another injury. This time, a broken fibula.

For those not keeping track, over the last year I’ve broken my back, had colorectal surgery, undergone surgery to repair a torn labrum and damaged humeral head, and spent the better part of seven months in PT clawing my way back onto skis, only to have another injury that will force me to the sidelines for six more weeks.

Not the comeback tour I had in mind, but it’s the one I got. Another challenge. Another recovery.

18 years ago at @campofchampions. I was the Online Editor at @freeskiermagazine helping shape the future of a sport I loved, Blackcomb had a glacier, and my business card was a lift ticket to any ski area on the planet. I’ve been blessed with one of the most unique careers in skiing that has given me so, so much. 🔪 Shoulder surgery scheduled two days after my 44th birthday. Spending as much time as I can over the next two weeks being active, hanging with friends, and living life to the fullest before I'm laid up for 4-6 months.

I've broken over 20 bones, but this is my first time going under the knife, having anesthesia, and facing a really long term recovery. I'm not worried about the pain, physical therapy or recovery - I'm worried about losing my goddamn mind not being able to stay active.

I'm not used to staying still, so hit me up with any recommendations you have to keep my mental health in one piece. Because I know I'm going to be an absolute basket case by day 7. taken in Milcreek Canyon by @ozskier
