A Timepiece with a Powerful Message. 🇫🇮⌚ ⠀ During Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Finland, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo presented him with a remarkable gift: a watch made from the armor of a destroyed Russian T-90 tank. ⠀ Named CTRL-Z, the watch plays on the familiar “undo” command, while its sharp angles and pronounced bevels take inspiration from the profile of a tank. ⠀ The story began with Finnish watchmaker Leo Winter, who had recently graduated as a micromechanic from the Finnish School of Watchmaking. After the idea of creating a watch from destroyed military equipment came up, a Finnish humanitarian worker brought armor plates from a destroyed Russian tank to Helsinki. ⠀ Winter transformed the material into a limited series of just 55 CTRL-Z watches, each priced at €7,500, with 50% of the proceeds donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross. ⠀ Winter later presented the watch to Prime Minister Orpo and asked him to pass it on to President Zelenskyy — turning a piece of destruction into something with an entirely different meaning. ⠀ As Rebuild Watches puts it: “Turning something bad into something good.” ⠀ Thanks @rebuildwatches for sharing the story. 🙏 ⠀ #RebuildWatches #CTRLZ #Watchmaking #IndependentWatches #WatchCulture
