living with depression is fucking terrible, exhausting, and debilitating, but i’m so incredibly thankful for all the love and support I receive from friends and family (especially you @_troubled_waters_ ) that helps me see everything wonderful that lives in this unforgiving darkness.

im fortunate to still be here, especially after wanting to not be alive for so very long (and sometimes still). to everyone out there with mental health issues — keep fighting. it may never go away, and it’s probably the most difficult thing you’ll ever have to do, but it’s worth it. this strange and beautiful life is worth it.

I’ll admit, it feels so weird to do this life alone. I’ll even hazard a guess and say most of us who find ourselves here would agree, it’s not what we were chasing in the beginning.

I called one of my best friends the other day and heard all about his son, his brilliant wife, and how the chickens they were raising had just laid their first eggs. A beautiful life.
Such a juxtaposition to the one I have.
Ironically, he’s younger than me and living the life I always felt predestined for. The one I felt drawn to. Maybe even chased and charmed my way towards (admittedly, at the detriment of past lovers).

And yet, here I am, at the furthest point from the thing I wanted the most.
Drifting further out, it feels a bit like a Wes Anderson movie. Me, looking through binoculars back toward the shore of a rainbow (Row)-colored normality. Commiserating with my what-ifs and if-onlys, wondering how I ended up in this boat by myself. Wondering where my dog went.

Who knew happiness could be found in the opposite of what I thought I wanted? Maybe still do.
Not lonely, just alone. 🚣🏻
