Shiitake Log Inoculation, a wonderful repurposing of otherwise “waste” wood.
It’s as simple as:
1: Drill holes
2: Inoculate holes with mushroom spawn
3: Seal holes with wax
4: Practice patience, they’ll begin to produce next fall.

Each log will last 5 years, producing each year (less and less each year as they age). At peak, each log is capable of producing up to 1 pound of mushrooms in a flush.

A delicious, nutritious, and fun way to add more “wild food” to the property, while repurposing dead oaks.

I saw these black poplar mushroom inoculates at Delucas. Might be something to try as well
