🥵 Irina Rodnina: Valieva Lacks the Endurance to Complete Her Programs

Three-time Olympic champion Irina Rodnina has weighed in on Kamila Valieva’s comeback, saying the skater faces a more complicated challenge than Alexandra Ignatova, who has also returned to competition.

“Kamila Valieva’s situation is more complicated than Alexandra Ignatova’s. Kamila has grown considerably and, naturally, gained weight. I’m not saying she is overweight, but her body mass has increased as a result of her growth,” Rodnina said, as reported by RIA Novosti Sport.

Although Rodnina believes Valieva has largely retained her technical ability, she questioned the skater’s current endurance.

“She has hardly lost any of her technique, but she has absolutely no endurance. She lacks the strength to get through her program.”

Rodnina added that physical difficulties could also affect Valieva psychologically, suggesting that the skater may need a different approach to her training.

“If this athlete matters to us, we probably need to develop an entirely different training plan for her,” she concluded.

Valieva recently returned to Eteri Tutberidze after previously training under Svetlana Sokolovskaya.
