💜Do you agree?

💜In my years as a midwife, a mother and within the birth community I have found that most mothers share that it isn’t exactly WHAT happened at their births that really stuck with them, it was how they FELT.

💜I really began to dig deeper into the trauma of birth and healing that women go through when I would hear many birth stories of women so elated and happy to retell their births which sounded rather turbulent and not typically what you’d believe to be a calm birth, and then other have other women be absolutely distraught retelling their birth story which off face value sounded peaceful. It’s all subjective.

💜 what’s your experience?

First birth was horrible, I truly felt like everyone thought I was stupid and everything wasn’t explained. Second one although even more traumatic I felt supported, informed and collaborative decisions were made.

So true!! I’ll never forget the bossy midwife who stormed in and told me she was the “big bossy midwife”, and that I’d do as she said .. 🤯 felt like a scene from a movie!

I had a beautiful birth at both face value and in how I felt about it, BUT there is 2 things about my birth that the second midwife did (I was MGP and birthed with my primary midwife and student but the second midwife wasn’t known to me) that still piss me right off!

Love this! Mine was okay considering how early he was, I still incorporated as much of the hypnobirthing into labour from our course with you (the best!!) but I was disheartened during all my appts, I had some stuff happen and still to this day don’t know what caused it even seeing several endocrinologist doctors, the GD wasn’t great with and they kept telling me I wasn’t able to give birth naturally due to his size… I gave birth naturally just fine. But yeah the lead up wasn’t great and the aftercare I feel could be 10000000x better. They offer support groups but mums with anxiety and fear of leaving the house this is the last thing i wanted to do.

I've got 4 babies but birth number 3 still has me feeling "yuck" and like I didn't own my own body. It was probably the "easiest" birth, yet one particular doctor left me feeling embarrassed/ashamed and frankly pretty traumatised. A lot of my healing came from having a beautiful birth with baby number 4, but there are still some deep discomforts I need to work through ❤️
