"Leaving Kansas" is the first of four poems I wrote/performed for the wealth-building convention I attended in July 2023 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

The company hosted the convention for current and prospective agents.

Each poem I was commissioned to write/perform had to follow each of their company credences:

I spend a lot of time calling out “biohacking” BS, but sauna is one of the few things in that space where the evidence is actually pretty interesting.

In a cohort of 2,315 Finnish men followed for more than 20 years, more frequent sauna use was associated with lower cardiovascular and all-cause mortality (PMID: 25705824). Important: that’s observational data, so it does NOT prove sauna itself caused people to live longer.

We also have randomized data. In an 8-week trial, adding 15 minutes of post-exercise sauna to exercise produced greater improvements in systolic blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness, and total cholesterol versus exercise alone in adults with cardiovascular risk factors (PMID: 35785965).

For recovery, a small crossover trial found 20 minutes of infrared sauna after resistance training reduced soreness and attenuated the drop in explosive performance the next day (PMID: 37398966). But the overall recovery literature is still mixed, so I wouldn’t call sauna a magic recovery tool.

Bottom line: sauna isn’t magic, but unlike a lot of “biohacks,” there’s enough legitimate evidence for me to take it seriously — and I’ve really enjoyed having the Luminar 2 from @sunhomesaunas as part of my recovery program.

What a year it has been… 🥹❤️‍🩹✨

This year started in one of the most difficult ways imaginable, not only for me but also for Mason 💔 There were so many tears, heartbreak, moments of uncertainty, and days when I genuinely had no idea what the future would hold.

But somewhere along the way, everything started to change ❤️

Especially the second half of this year has been filled with so much unexpected happiness, beautiful memories, incredible experiences, and wonderful people who came into my life when I least expected it 🥹 Not to mention the incredible friends and family who stood by my side, lifted me up, and reminded me that I was never alone 🥺

Looking back, I realize that sometimes life has to fall apart before it can come together in ways you never could have imagined 🙏🏽

And if you’re reading this while going through heartbreak, a separation, or one of the hardest chapters of your life, I want you to know something:

The way you feel right now is not the way you will feel forever ❤️‍🩹

I’m so incredibly grateful for every person who made me smile again, every adventure that reminded me how beautiful life can be, and every little moment that made my heart feel full again 🫶🏼

And if there’s one thing this year has taught me, it’s this:

Trust God’s timing, even when you don’t understand his plans. Sometimes the things you never saw coming turn out to be the blessings you needed most 🙏🏽✨
