Six months into studying the color-changing skin of cuttlefish for her PHD, neuroscientist Sophie Cohen-Bodénés noticed one of her cephalopods dramatically lift its two front arms up and then swoop them back down. She couldn’t help but wonder - did that cuttlefish just “wave” at me?

She began to meticulously track and sequence cuttlefish arm movements, and concluded that yes, these waves were not random, but a clear form of interaction display, and possibly a communication sign. Their ten limbs (eight arms and two tentacles) aren’t just for swimming, but also for talking “cuttle-to-cuttle” (or, perhaps, “cuttle-to-Sophie”).

Since publishing her team’s findings in her PhD thesis, Sophie’s developing an app that uses ChatGPT and Codex to recognize visual and auditory patterns in animal behavior. Her goal is to give pet owners real-time insight into their animals’ expressive signals, providing important context clues regarding their health and needs.

Sophie believes there’s a revolution coming in animal communication, and that AI will help reveal hidden, subtle patterns and details in animal signals that humans currently can’t access. What started as one small wave for cuttlefish could become one giant leap for humankind.

📢 Обращение автомобилиста.
13 октября примерно с 07:50 до 08:05 возле школы №115 по адресу ул. Е797, 2 в Астане произошла дорожная ситуация, которая вызвала недовольство участников движения.
По словам автора обращения, водитель автомобиля Geely выехала на полосу встречного движения, в результате чего встречные автомобили не могли свободно проехать.

«В результате машины не могли нормально разъехаться. На просьбы освободить проезд водитель не реагировала и около десяти минут оставалась на месте. За это время с обеих сторон собрались очереди автомобилей», пишет очевидец.
🚗 Особое беспокойство вызывает то, что ситуация произошла в утренний час пик возле школы, когда родители привозят детей на занятия.

❗️Автор обращения просит Департамент полиции Астаны обратить внимание на ситуацию, проверить обстоятельства произошедшего и при наличии нарушений принять предусмотренные законодательством меры.
