Fresh Cut Friday, October 2021 edition. This weekend marks FIVE YEARS since my first zero buzzcut. 🥹

Back when my entire editing strategy was “press record and cut hair.” No dramatic transitions. No carefully engineered three-second hook. Just me, some clippers, and nearly six minutes of your afternoon.

I’ve shortened it this time. You’re welcome 😂

I’d already buzzed my hair, but taking the guard off was another first. Watching this back, I love seeing myself smile and keep reaching up to feel it. I’d spent so many years frustrated with my hair, and here I was, finding out I could just… have even less of it.

Five years later, I’m still delighted by that discovery.

If there’s something you’ve wanted to try because you think it might feel more like you, I hope you give that feeling some credit. Being happy with yourself is a pretty good reason. ❤️

The presence of people changes from one photograph to another in this selection. Sometimes a figure appears small against the surrounding architecture; elsewhere, a moment of movement draws our attention to the person at the centre of the scene.
Light, distance and the character of each setting contribute to these differences. Together, the photographs offer glimpses of places Burcu has visited and moments she has noticed along the way.
“Photography is a way of discovering moments that often go unnoticed in the flow of everyday life for me. The light, movement, and human stories I encounter across different places and lives inspire me to take photographs.”

How does the setting influence the way we perceive a moment?
