Over the past couple months I’ve felt extremely powerless. As a woman trying to work my way around the music industry, reading what feels like daily stories of abuse, assault and coercion that non-men in music experience makes me feel physically sick (and I’m sure I’m not alone). To try and help this feeling, and in the midst of trying to do fucking anything to combat it, I ended up creating a zine titled Power Play. It’s a desperate collection of my thoughts, anger, and frustration towards the sexist power dynamic present in the music industry, loudly written and (poorly) illustrated.
It’s been a form of therapy to me, and I want to share that: I would love for other non-men in music to take part. If you’re interested, whether you‘re angry, sad, fed up or just want to fucking scream - I want to hear it. Anything is valid, from one sentence to an entire page, I just want it to be loud and I want people to know. I want it to take up space.
Any entries will be completely anonymous (unless requested otherwise) and the end product will form the first issue of Power Play. I’m not entirely sure when it will be finished, but as soon as it is copies of it will be just the price of production and shipping (so a little over £1 most likely!) to anyone who wants one.
