Following a general election debate, El-Sayed addressed his previous criticism of former U.S. president Barack Obama.

It was announced that Obama would campaign for El-Sayed in Detroit, Michigan.

Asked how this arrangement worked, El-Sayed expressed gratitude for what Obama had made possible, while acknowledging his criticisms levelled at the former president.

The Democrat, who is running for senate, stressed that he loved Obama like he loved his father.

While El-Sayed couldn’t agree with some things Obama did, the disagreement came “out of deep love” for the 44th president.

He had previously accused Obama of moving too far to the right and allowing the economy to “stagnate”.
The two are now set to appear together at a campaign event in Detroit on Oct. 24.

If elected, El-Sayed will be America's first Muslim senator.
