ICE broke the arm of a US citizen in Long Beach, CA and kidnapped another woman, also a US citizen, Saturday Oct 17. ICE vehicles were spotted in the North Long Beach neighborhood on 56th and Elm, community alerts quickly went out to notify neighbors that ICE was in the area. Shortly afterward, ICE attacked a man on his e-bike, striking him with their vehicle, tasing him, and breaking his arm before putting him in handcuffs while he was pinned to the ground screaming for help. At least 10 other ICE vehicles raced into the residential neighborhood, speeding up and down streets at speeds of 50 MPH, blowing through stop signs, speeding the opposite direction down one-way streets, all on a Saturday when children and families are outside. ICE then grabbed and kidnapped another woman, also a US citizen. When her husband and other community members demanded they let her go, several agents became aggressive and attempted to intimidate community members. ICE then called LBPD who arrived and set up a perimeter around the area before assisting ICE agents while ignoring the community’s pleas for help as the neighborhood was being terrorized. @longbeachcity is supposed to be a sanctuary city. Instead, LBPD quickly prioritized assisting ICE agents while our community was being terrorized by armed masked agents. What ICE did today was not just unconstitutional, it was illegal. Despite that, Long Beach residents stood up, and came out into the streets letting ICE know we will not allow them to terrorize our city. Only we can keep us safe.
