Do you ever fall into that “all or nothing” trap? Black and white thinking is a cognitive bias that we all do at times, but we tend to do more of it when we are stressed (more below👇).
📖 For more help on this check out my No.1 Bestselling book - Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? It is packed with insights from therapy to help everyone boost their mental health and thrive in the face of life’s ups and downs. It is now available worldwide (link in bio).
👉Something small happens and, “the whole day is ruined!”
This tendency to think in absolutes can make it harder to deal with hurdles because it triggers more intense emotional reactions. If we can only consider something a complete success or a complete failure then we are vulnerable to feeling like a complete failure much of the time.
So look out for that all or nothing/ black or white thinking. When you notice it appear, call it out. Acknowledge it is a bias that is not helpful. The process of recognising the bias for what it is, will help to take some of the power out of it. Then you can consider alternative perspectives. Give it a go.
