Repost: @theeblackdailytx Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland just turned a piece of their Houston history into a home for people who need one. The #KnowlesRowlandHouse held its grand opening on Tuesday, October 13, a 31 unit permanent supportive housing development in Midtown Houston for people who have experienced chronic homelessness, with 16 of the units designed to be accessible. Beyoncé and Rowland marked the occasion alongside family, including Tina Knowles and Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter.

The building has deep roots. It began as the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, built in 1999 with money from Destiny's Child's first hit single, on the campus of the church where both families worshipped. Hurricane Harvey damaged it in 2017 and a fire hit in 2021, leaving it unused until nonprofits Bread of Life and Temenos Community Development Corporation reimagined it as an $8.4 million housing project, backed in part by a $7.2 million Harris County grant. Residents get a full rent subsidy through the Houston Housing Authority, plus services like case management, mental health support, substance abuse treatment, and life skills training.

It lands when #Houston needs it, with the city's unhoused population up 16 percent in 2025. Two Destiny's Child icons who came up here chose to leave a legacy that goes beyond music, a place where people can rebuild stability and independence.

Shauntai May Nickerson, the mother of Griffin J. John, was seen crying and smoking a cigarette outside her apartment complex as reporters approached her following Thursday’s deadly shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School. Despite the devastating allegations against her son, Nickerson described the teenager as a good child, telling reporters, “He was a good boy, he really was.”
—————————
The grieving mother also expressed how much she missed her son, saying, “I miss him.” Nickerson then offered an emotional apology to the families of the victims, acknowledging the unimaginable pain they are facing following the deadly attack. “I’m so sorry, I wish I could have done something. I’m sorry for their loss,” she said.
—————————
She also insisted she would have done everything in her power to prevent the tragedy if she had known what was going to happen. “If I could have prevented this, I would have,” Nickerson said. If you’re unaware, The shooting reportedly left three students and one teacher dead. Thoughts?

This dip shocked me when I first learned how to make it from my friend. Just a can of sweetened condensed milk?

It felt too good to be true. The best part is that you can make it in advance and store in the fridge until you need it! It’s a family favorite and is much easier than the whole dipping apple/make a mess process. Note: this is called Dulce de leche in many parts of the world, it’s delicious with shortbread cookies, in Peru they are called Alfajores.

Ingredients
1 can sweetened condensed milk
4 apples of your choice
1/4 cup nuts, I prefer pecans, crushed.

Directions
- Place can in a pot and cover with water. Place on the stove and bring to a boil. Cover, then simmer for 2 hours. Let rest for 30 mins then open can and place caramel on a plate. Top with nuts, serve warm or store in the can in the fridge for the next day!
