NEWS | Salvadoran soldiers have begun patrolling the streets of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, with some residents welcoming their arrival by applauding military convoys passing through their neighborhoods. On October 30, heavily armed Salvadoran troops were seen moving through Tabarre and surrounding areas, including neighborhoods near Toussaint Louverture International Airport. The soldiers traveled in armored vehicles and on foot, with helicopter support. Footage of the patrols has circulated online, including a video shared by El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele. More than 2,000 Salvadoran soldiers have been deployed to Haiti following the disappearance of four Salvadoran aviation technicians during a gang ambush in Croix-des-Bouquets on October 18. Bukele says the operation aims to bring the missing men home and confront armed gangs obstructing the mission. The applause from some residents marks a visible show of support for the troops’ arrival, as Haiti continues to face widespread gang violence and insecurity. However, reactions to the foreign military deployment remain divided, and the response of those welcoming the soldiers does not necessarily represent the views of the wider population • ____ // Combined sources
Recently, the well-known Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Gupta passed away. It was during his funeral, when his 13-year-old daughter Dalai Gupta was seen showing her middle finger to the paps, who had surrounded their car. The late Sanjay’s wife Anuradha Lekhi Gupta took to social media through Milap Zaveri’s account and posted the following: ‘Sanjay loved his family and children immensely. Our children are adolescents who have suddenly lost their beloved father. Having grown up away from the glare of the limelight and the intrusive nature of paparazzi culture, they were deeply distressed by the sudden intrusion into their privacy at such a difficult time. In their grief and anguish, some of their reactions may have been directed towards certain members of the media. I sincerely regret any hurt this may have caused. I humbly request everyone to understand these reactions for what they truly are — the expressions of grieving children struggling to come to terms with an irreparable loss. I request you to kindly excuse them, and appeal to everyone to delete any content that may leave lasting emotional scars on their young minds. Please allow them the privacy, compassion, and space they need to grieve the loss of their father. With gratitude, Anuradha’.💔🙏🏻
