2 months agoFun Fact: French fries trace their origin to 17th century Belgium, near the Meuse River which snakes through Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. Villagers within this region fried fish throughout the year but typically shifted to potato strips during the harsh winter season when the Meuse River froze and its fish were in short supply. During World War I, US soldiers misinterpreted the dish’s origins because French is commonly spoken in Belgium, causing them to begin erroneously referring to this dish as “French fries” If a single person learns from this, my time will not have been wasted 🤔
