I’ve wanted a gold evening coat for YEARS!! Decades ! I finally got one. ! I’m thrilled ! ..I wore it to a very very glamorous incredibly fun and beautiful event in Lisbon last night. Let me tell you the story about those beautiful hand made Moroccan buttons . Everyone was done up when I bought it. I asked the shop to undo them , they managed in an hour to open it enough for me to slip it over my head . I brought it back to Portugal.. my Filipino housekeeper and my tailor failed to open it .. So I took it to Borneo knowing that a solution could be found by the incredible nimble handed people of this country .. and they opened it ! It is hours of work. I’ve had So many attempts along the way to have a gold coat .. I once bought an antique gold lace vintage one that would fit a Barbie doll ..I bought gold brocade in India two years ago .. it turns out it’s appears a dull silver ..it’s still a roll of fabric. And I can’t tell if it’s silk or plastic . I keep on setting it on fire to find out !! I’ve consulted designers and tailors to no avail .. no gold coat appeared . Anyway in Tangier this May in a wonderful shop in the medina .. I found this Kaftan ! Everything else has been collected for years to create this lewk. This is half the fun !This is how you create soul and meaning for yourself. The softest silk brocade @payalkhandwala trousers from India five years old , my faithful evening shirt .. 16 to 18 years old made by the brilliant shirt makers of Hong Kong … my shoes I’ve had for 6 years yellow gold velvet with spiders from @coast_and_koi in Cape Town . Gold socks from Sweden. And my lucky packet rings from Rome last week 😂and a much loved 4 years old hand bag handmade in Istanbul by @mehrymu . My necklaces by @griffart and my beloved pearls from @bowerhaus in Borneo . So with my hair done in Portugal by my lovely Portuguese hairdresser . Mani by my Brazilian manicurist. And a South African heart. I set out to attend this amazing party celebrating Portugal , its exceptional style as a destination, its sophistication , its glamour , its soul and cultural capital. Im such a fan ! Im a global tiramisu if nothing else !
