June 2021 @gearshift_productions for PEEK-A-ROO @spinmaster
@spinmaster always has magical and creative commercials, and this PEEK-A-ROO spot with @barkervision directing, produced by @gearshift_productions and @zacreaneybarker was no different. Here we had the opportunity to integrate an LED volume wall, which is a background of LED panels that shows a pre-rendered set or backdrop that can change in relation to our camera position. This produces a parallax effect, adding a sense of scale, depth and realism previously unthinkable with painted backdrops in a studio.
Designing for a LED volume wall presents a unique challenge of working physical props, set dressing and design elements seamlessly in the virtual space created by a volume wall. Here we had to carefully consider our scale and camera positioning to ensure our foreground elements added the necessary texture and detail, effectively melding the physical set and the virtual, animated universe of PEEK-A-ROO, displayed on the volume. I think we nailed it and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with this technology again. The possibilities are virtually unlimited.
