The Indian womenโ€™s hockey team has scripted history in Japan, defeating defending champions China 1-0 in the Asian Games final to win its first gold medal at the continental event in 44 years. Indiaโ€™s last womenโ€™s hockey gold at the Asian Games came all the way back in 1982 in New Delhi. Since then, the team had reached the final twice, finishing with silver in 1998 and 2018, before finally ending the four-decade wait at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The moment that decided the final came in the 10th minute. After China had started aggressively, India turned defence into attack and Lalremsiami fired a powerful reverse-hit into the roof of the net to put India 1-0 ahead. The goal, scored on her 200th international appearance, would eventually prove enough to seal gold. But India had to fight for every minute that followed. China piled on the pressure and earned a penalty stroke in the second quarter, giving them a huge opportunity to level the match. Veteran goalkeeper Savita Punia, however, produced one of the biggest moments of the final, diving to her left and keeping the attempt out. India were forced to defend deep for long stretches as China repeatedly entered the circle and won penalty corners. Another penalty stroke was initially awarded to China in the third quarter, only for India to successfully overturn the decision through a video review. China even withdrew their goalkeeper in the closing minutes to add another outfield player, but India refused to break. When the final whistle blew, the score remained 1-0 and a 44-year wait was finally over. The victory makes India only the second-time Asian Games champions in womenโ€™s hockey, after their maiden title in 1982. More importantly, the gold has also secured the team a direct ticket to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, removing the need to go through a separate Olympic qualification tournament. From New Delhi in 1982 to Japan in 2026, Indian womenโ€™s hockey is back on top of Asia. And this time, the road to Los Angeles is already booked.

โœจ So many things happening at once! โœจ Today Iโ€™m in Rome, but I definitely want to take a moment to look back at last weekendโ€™s art fair Kunstverkaufsmesse Umschlagplatz in Coburg. โค๏ธ With great joy, I set up my own little stand and had such a wonderful time presenting my work, meeting visitors and connecting with so many lovely fellow artists. These personal encounters, conversations and new connections are one of the things I love most about being part of the art world. ๐ŸŽจโœจ Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared a conversation, showed interest in my work or simply made this weekend so special. โค๏ธ And nowโ€ฆ back to Rome! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡นโœจ๐Ÿฅฐ #artfair #petrapainting #contemporaryart #artoninstagram #artist
