It’s one thing to sing about surrender. It’s another thing to have to live it. This week on Mature Me, I sat down with one of my friends and heroes @joelhouston . We had such an honest conversation about stepping away from the platform, wrestling with disappointment and finding God in the middle of unanswered questions. Joel has helped so many of us put words to our worship through Hillsong UNITED most recently @amxnradio. He shares how he felt closer to God alone than in some of his most intimate moments on stage. The very things he’d written songs about, he found himself walking through. It’s hard to say “I don’t know” when people expect you to have the answers. But we can bring our questions to God. We don’t have to have it all figured out to come to Him. If you’re navigating a season where your faith feels more like a wrestle, I believe this conversation will encourage you. NOW live on the Rich Wilkerson Jr. YouTube Channel. 🔗

In-person jury selection began today, October 13, 2026, in the federal death penalty trial of #PaytonGendron, the white supremacist who massacred 10 #Black people at a Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, #NewYork, in 2022. Gendron faces 27 federal counts, including hate crimes resulting in death and firearms violations. A pool of roughly 1,200 potential jurors has been narrowed down to about 700. Prospects are being brought to court in groups of 70 for direct questioning. The court aims to seat 12 jurors and 6 alternates, a process expected to take six to eight weeks. Following jury selection, witness testimony is expected to begin in December 2026. If convicted, the penalty phase to decide between life in prison or execution will likely start in early 2027. Gendron is already serving life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to state murder and domestic terrorism charges in 2023. His federal public defenders have stated they will not dispute his guilt during the federal trial. The defense’s only goal is to offer mitigating evidence—such as mental health assessments—to spare Gendron from execution. The defense previously offered a guilty plea in exchange for a life sentence, but the U.S. Justice Department rejected the deal, choosing instead to pursue the capital sentence.
