On a flight from California to London, late September 2013, I sat very close to a German lady, who had a book whose title has since changed my view on a number of issues, it changed my perspective on a number of issues, about life and living generally 😳
The title of the book is "POWER OF ONE".
I asked her to give me a chance to glean, and she graciously obliged me. Until then, I had not really applied myself to the impact and difference that one could be or make.
The author of the book drew attention to those who had remarkably changed the status quo, they all were individuals first before the buy in of others.
This import of one man is evidenced also by my Egbon, APATIROKO DAYO ADETUNMBI, I dare anyone to show me another man like APATIROKO, Apa for short, who has become a legend and whose legendary is not just in his unique dress sense, simply in a short sleeve shirt and a pair of knickers, I am not sure if I have seen him in any costume [ thats what it has become for me] for all of the years that I had known him, irrespective and regardless of the occasion, Apa is constant with his adopted style. A trademark of some sort. Uniquely APA.
Beyond the dress sense, I am not too sure of any man of his age that is as accomondating as APA, all of us younger elements are always warmly accepted and related with as if we are his buddies from way back . It can only be Apa.
Also typifying the man Apa is his uncommon humility from the heart inspite of his accomplishments in life, only a few know that Apa is a very successful businessman who had become a multi millionaire way back in the early 80s out of building trucks and other heavy duty machineries, with a lot of people in his workforce. A deeply introspective and reflective person , with a heart for humanity❤️, it is only Apa who will take you out and after a good time out, he will make sure he gives everyone money regardless of your age, and you will find him even pleading, ma binu oo .. ma lo Kere oo, even when he knows you also have attained some level of comfort in life. A man with unusual generosity. Another legendary quality of APA is the kind of heart he has, no matter what, Apa will always choose to let go of any ill feeling to anyone, no matter what , Apa will always let go, when there was a gang up against his mega successful business interests, and one thought he will be permanently bitter, Apa took all the human machinations and shenanigans that were thrown at him in good faith without ill will toward anyone, and moved on. A man whose heart cannot accomondate any guile. Today I celebrate this unusual man, of uncommon warmth and with facinatingly infectious personality by reason of his defining human attributes of sincerity, true care and real concern for anyone whose paths may cross him, a man who is permanently looking out for others physically and their interests. I am today using this opportunity to celebrate a great man not by title, or for his wealth, but the depth of humanity that his life of simplicity exemplifies and exudes consistently not flash in pan. Egbon permit me to use this opportunity to again reiterate my gratitude for all that you have been to me, your generosity, your unflinching support during my bad times, thanks indeed for you kind words, the privilege to hang out with you and to learn from your life and drink from your fountain of simplicity which is the true and definitive colour of enduring greatness.
