I just got some @zildjiancompany K custom dry hi hats and I thought this groove would be the best way to break them in. I’ve been working on this for years and it’s still so hard to get it right. The way Gadson pops the snares is so unique and funky. I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to figure it out. Also, I figured this @rogersdrums powertone snare I got from @rochesterdrumtrade was the right choice for the groove. #vintagedrums#drummersofinstagram#jamesgadson#rochesterny#rogersdrums #
They key is half swung hi hats - try laying back on the sixteenths to give slightly more space and trying doing it with a rimshot on the snare, preferably traditional grip. That’s gonna get you closer for sure!
