Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Utility Objects is the creation of Afro-Latina ceramicist Aleisha Duchateau (Doo-sha-TOE). In this one-woman studio, I blend organic textures and glazes to create contemporary, handcrafted pieces. Each work celebrates the inherent beauty of clay, often featuring distinctive satin or rock-like finishes. Utility Objects designs draw inspiration from wabi-sabi (emphasizing the handmade) from Japan as well as European splatterware designs from the 18th century. These influences are used to craft unique pieces for everyday use and artful displays.
