Most people dream of a nice garden, but Jasmine has two! 67yr old Jasmine @garddbiwmares from the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales, is married and now retired from her NHS job. Owning horses for 40 years (until a couple of years ago) she now spends her time either painting ( @jas.art.ynysmon ) or gardening. Her garden at home is for flowers and shrubs and four years ago she acquired an allotment where she grows fruit, veg and more flowers. Inheriting her love of gardening from both sides of her family, Jasmine adds that none of them were horticulturists, rather they had a “stick it in the ground and let’s see what happens” approach, yet everything grew well!! Growing her own food is important to Jasmine because it tastes 100% better. Her favourites are Broad beans, Peas and Spuds. She gets great pleasure from cooking with her produce and making jam. Advising that you have to be fully committed to have an allotment, Jasmine says that it starts in February with planting seeds, then March is planting out (location and climate dependent). It is very full on until October when everything is cleaned up. Negatives are slugs, backache, weather, dirty fingernails and birds are sometimes seen as problematic, but Jasmine loves them. The positives however from gardening far outweigh the negatives, with fresh air, great food, exercise, sense of achievement and seeing folk envy your basket laden with produce (she chuckles). But she does again stress the importance of being committed. It’s a lot of hard work. You don’t have to know everything, but you do need to be prepared to work hard.
Thank you so much Jasmine for sharing a piece of your heaven with us. Your photos are beautiful and I would love to taste that plum cake!!
