Maha Kumbh Mela - IV

The sound of the hymns, the air laden with the fragrance of flowers and incense sticks, the skyline adorned with brightly decked up temples that break the cacophony of millions that descend, with the rhythmic chiming of bells and the chants of the mantras, the Kumbh Mela is a religious congregation like no other, the sea of humanity comprising enlightened godmen, the ascetic sadhus, the seeking devotees, duty bound policemen, the ever so alert army, the dazed and confused western tourists and never to forget a whole bunch of photographers, all soaking in the sights and sounds, some taking a dip in holy waters and some hoping to rediscover themselves, some sipping in the experience while some like me capturing the stories. No wonder Kumbh has been accorded the status of ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’ by UNESCO
