As we are still in the window of Imbolc, I thought I’d share 3 separate videos that I recorded two years ago in Wells Cathedral’s chapter house, an octagonal space with the most incredible acoustics I’ve ever experienced. I asked my bro Jerome if he was up for getting up early on a cold 1st of February morning to help record me playing some different instruments so I could have some content to show what I do as I was beginning my journey going into music therapy and playing in healthcare environments.
2 years on and the journey continues and I feel emotional watching and remembering where I was and all the feelings of doubt and fear and imposter syndrome as I’ve always been a drummer and percussionist and this was me taking a first step to try and do something else that I love. I was nervous too as it was the first time sitting in front of a camera without a band, just me and my instrument and the pressure of knowing we only had a little window until the beautiful morning peace of the Cathedral changed to footsteps and chatter.
These are all first takes and improvised with freezing cold hands and un-warmed up instruments and I love them for what they are. A special thanks to Jerome for recording the audio and video and editing and mixing.
