🌙Blessed new moon and solar eclipse dear friends! Here’s a snippet of our first single, You Are The Medicine, out today on Bandcamp and YouTube (links in our bio to hear/buy the full song). So much love has gone into this record it’s quite absurd. We hope your ears and hearts feel it as much as we do. Here’s a bit more about the track:

🌿 You Are The Medicine is a hymn to the healing power of our inner and outer natures, and a sung practice of naming our interconnectedness to all life. The lyrics are a creative interpretation of Mexican medicine woman Maria Sabina’s well-known blessing ‘Curate mi hijita’. Some of the words are a direct or poetic translation from the Spanish, whilst others have been newly created to honour the plant and animal beings here in our home habitats of the UK. This song paints these powerful words in sound, and hopefully offers a reminder of the strong healing available within and all around us at any given moment. 🌿

We’ve been gardening! Tending songs, melodies, harmonies and rhythms which have been growing within for a good while now, and are ripe to be recorded and shared. We’re so happy to be releasing our first single on bandcamp THIS WEDNESDAY 12th August. It’s called ‘You Are The Medicine’, which is appropriate as we all head to @medicinefestival later that day. This festival and the land at Wasing have been central to the birth of this musical encounter between us all, and we’re happy to be sharing a few songs at the Sound Temple stage as part of festival founders George and Moshe’s Medicine Family Song Circle on Thursday 13th - 2-4pm - gratitude! I am so proud to share this record with you; a perfect trinity of songs written by the most excellent friend and musical companion, Julia Gelpke.

After producing her last album El Rio Debajo Del Rio back in 2022, my good friend Julia Gelpke called on me again to help make another record; with the vision of a short album of three songs dedicated to Yemanja, the great mother of the ocean.

Julia and I met with a group of our favourite musicians to begin writing parts and make arrangements of the songs, and then we set about recording them. The result is something so special, and I feel the production work, including the mixing, is some of my best to date.

Estrela do Mar (Star of the Sea) is a devotional meeting of Afro-Brazilian drums with West African kora and European orchestral instruments; influences that span three continents, all of which share the waters of the great Atlantic Ocean. There is so much depth and significance to the intention and meaning of these records, for healing and reconciliation, with a prayer and salutation to Yemanja, the great mother of us all.

With Asha McCarthy on Cello and vocals, Lizzie Ogle on Percussion and vocals, Arjun Magee on Kora, George Heartsong on Piano and Accordion, Alfie Weedon on Double Bass, and of course contributions of guitars and production skills from yours truly.

I am truly awed by what we have achieved. At times during this process I have thought "this is simply a masterpeice". I hope you love it as much as I do.

The spring equinox is nearly upon us! The daffodils are out. The bumblebees are threading life back together again. What a relief.
