For the next four years, Dylan will be going to a postsecondary school here in our city that meets the needs of students with exceptionalities by teaching them skills to obtain employment and live independently. We went to the school on a visit in November and the way my baby just jumped right in with the other students, talking and laughing, asking questions unprompted, I knew this was the school for him. ☺️
There are certain things you have to adjust to as a parent with autism, expectations and experiences that you have to learn to let go. The idea of going to a traditional college was one of those for us. While there are programs and some colleges and universities around the country that meet the needs of students with certain exceptionalities, those weren’t right for Dylan’s needs. The main reason is that Dylan doesn’t even like school lol. So it didn’t make sense for him to go to a specialized program in a college when he is not interested in the academics.
So the way this program is designed is really perfect for him! We’re so excited!!
