In our years covering Porsches, we’ve come across some very unique paint shades, but very few have stopped us in our tracks quite like the Caramel Beige on Klim Fedoff’s (@kfed877) G body 😮 A one-year-only colour from 1987, it suits the streets of New York City like it was made for them. For Klim however, the incredibly rare spec wasn’t something that initially drew him to the car. “Ironically, the colour was the part of the car I liked least when I saw it” says Klim. “I found it as a pretty rough ‘barn find’ in Pennsylvania. It had been sitting since 2005, the photos were terrible, but it was a G50 Carrera that happened to be close enough to drive to. I went to see it at night during a snowstorm. The garage it was in was so poorly lit the Caramel Beige looked like primer, I honestly planned on repainting it. I brought it to @rktmotorsports, a shop I’d already known for years through rallying, with the idea that we could build it into a restomod. Once we started digging in, we discovered what it actually was. At that point the whole plan changed. It felt almost wrong to cut up something so unusual. After a lot of discussion with RKT, we decided to give the car the restoration it deserved. The goal was then to make it feel like the very best version of a Porsche delivered in 1987. In the end, I didn’t choose the colour at all, the car chose it for me. And I’m very glad I originally thought it looked like primer. Once the restoration was done I trailered the car 500 miles to @luftgekuhlt. It was a brand new build and I was still nervous about driving it long distance. On the return journey however, the tow vehicle broke down almost immediately and the car had to carry on without it. It turned out to be the best possible shakedown, zero issues. More than that, it was an opportunity to bond with the car after the restoration, and it was fantastic. No drama, just 500 miles and a good reminder that these cars are meant to be used. Sometimes trouble in life happens for a reason.” Photos by @urbanautoenthusiast Words by @therealalfiemunkenbeck for @type7
