15 years ago, I heard my name called on draft night — a moment I’ll never forget. The lights, the anticipation, the tears in my family’s eyes, the pride in my heart — it was a dream realized. Tonight, it’s your turn.
To the young men being drafted: congratulations. This is a night that marks the beginning of something special. You’ve worked your entire life for this opportunity. You’ve sacrificed. You’ve trained. You’ve believed. And now, your name will forever be a part of this league’s story.
But I’ll tell you this — this moment is not the finish line.
It’s the starting block. You haven’t made it — you’ve earned the right to start.
The NFL will challenge you in every way: physically, mentally, emotionally. The ones who succeed are the ones who stay hungry, stay humble, and never stop working. Your talent got you here. Your discipline and decisions will determine how long you stay.
Let me give you a few pieces of advice I wish every rookie could hear:
Be smart with your money. This is new territory — and it’s tempting to spend fast and live big. Don’t. Be intentional. Learn. Ask questions. Invest wisely. Remember, it’s not about how much you make — it’s about how much you keep, how you grow it, and what legacy you build with it.
Surround yourself with excellence. Get a team — not just on the field, but off it. Financial experts. Mentors. Lawyers. Veteran players you can learn from. People who will challenge you, protect you, and tell you the truth even when it’s hard.
You only get one shot at your rookie year. One shot to set the tone for your career. So stay focused. Handle your business. And understand that greatness is built day by day — in silence, in the gym, in the film room, in how you treat others and how you carry yourself.
Enjoy tonight. Celebrate it. You’ve earned that. But when you wake up tomorrow, it’s time to go to work.
See you at the top.
