‘Zâhid Bizi Ta’n Eyleme’ is a celebrated Turkish Sufi poem brought to the ROOTED stage in Ankara by @samiyusuf, whose own interpretation and arrangement breathe new life into this cherished piece of Turkish musical heritage.

Traditionally attributed to Bezcizâde Şeyh Mehmed Muhyiddîn Efendi, known as Muhyi, this 17th-century poem reflects the depth of Ottoman-era mystical poetry. Rooted in the Melâmî tradition, its words challenge outward judgment and superficial displays of piety, emphasising inner humility, sincere devotion and a love of the Divine that reaches beyond appearances.

This powerful performance, presented alongside the extraordinary @fonssophiaecollective, brings centuries of Turkish musical heritage and Sufi poetry into a captivating contemporary musical experience. 🇹🇷✨

Through its evocative words and expressive melodies, ‘Zâhid Bizi Ta’n Eyleme’ reminds us that the deepest expressions of faith are found not in outward appearances, but in the sincerity of the heart.

One of the more offbeat entries into Alfred Hitchcock’s film canon, THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY ('55) takes full advantage of Vermont’s resplendency during peak foliage season as a murder mystery unfolds.

See it tonight as part of our TCM Special Theme, Sweater Weather.

i get fomo every week from everybody using more ai than me. then i see their quality of output hit the market and all the fomo goes away. take that for what it is.

“For years now, pop music has been suffused with a vague, or coded, malaise,” Amanda Petrusich writes. “It’s increasingly evident that everyone feels dread and anxiety about the apparent grimness of the world, though they stop short from saying too much about the particulars..” For Fontaines D.C., a young and brainy rock band from Dublin, with post-punk, New Wave, and electronica influences, private existential terror takes center stage. On their fifth album, “Dopamine Chamber,” the quintet wrestles with how to seek pleasure while remaining hyperaware of the devastations of the world. Their “particular pairing—viciousness and smarts—feels scarce these days, when the world’s most powerful institutions seem to prefer that we be anodyne and dumb,” Petrusich writes.
