Last December, for the first time in my adult life, my dad initiated getting me a birthday cake. I repeat: the man who’s allergic to spending money….bought a cake 🎂😭

But plot twist, before he could even show me he dropped it. Blamed the dog. Tried to reshape it with his fingers. It had a giant dent and some panicked cake surgery smudges – but it was perfect 😂

My dad’s never been a cake guy, hug guy, or “say I love you” guy. But after years of healing (shoutout to my therapist), I’ve learned to see his love in squished cakes, free alleyway furniture, and the occasional mumbled “love you too” before slamming the door.

This post is a tribute to the quiet ways our parents show love – through frugality, furniture finds, and a 20% off cake after 5PM at Anna’s Bakery.
