🎸🎶 Happy 1 week of “You Helped Me Believe”, the latest @_weathermachine single! ⛅️ Here is the guitar solo take we ended up using on the final track, and if you read on, a bit of the story behind it. 📖

@lukejacksonhoffman (🥁) and I had a discussion about how a guitar solo often starts low and slowly works its way up to a climax on the highest frets. He proposed that, for the solo on this tune, I should try to do the opposite—start high and slowly work my way down to the lowest notes on the instrument. It was a fun concept, and I ended up tuning my low E down to a D so I could end the solo even lower.

I started out doing takes mostly mimicking lines from the verse vocal melody, but on this take I decided to try something different and climb even higher in the first few bars. I didn’t know where I was going with it, but it all managed to land, and when it was done, we all knew it was the keeper!

Special thanks to @gusberry for letting me use his old champ-style Supro amp to get this fun fuzzy tone.

Glad y’all are enjoying these first two singles from the forthcoming record! Looking forward to sharing more stories from these sessions as more tunes come out 🎶🤘
